Wow - review number 50! Finally got there, so I'll write a quick review on my new(ish) work phone, as it is convienently in front of me.
When I started my job this year I successfully convinced the committee to get the President a mobile phone, as my predecessor had spent loads of money on his personal mobile on work realted issues, and I wasn't keen to do the same. So I was sent out into the high street with the explicit instructions to 'Keep It Cheap!'
Pushing dreams of the latest Nokia out of my head, I got down to the serious business of finding a bargain mobile phone, and in the end I settled on the Siemens A55.
It's quite an old phone, which explains how I got it for £30 in Dixons. You can pick it up for about £20 these days, but to be honest there aren't many left.
However, it does everything one would want it to. A quick list of features should give you a good idea: ~Sends/receives text messages, has T9 dictionary, preset messages and so on. ~Records received/missed/dialled calls ~Alarm Clock ~Surf & fun - this includes WAP internet access, 4 games, Downloads pictures, sounds and animations, calculator and currency converter. ~ 40 different ring tones, option to have silent vibrate alert ~6 different profiles ~Different screensavers, options to customise the main display, change the language, divert calls and so on. ~ Phonebook ~T-zones plus (which I've never actually used, but appears to other ways of using up yor credit in a frivolous manner)
The buttons are a good size and easy to use, so you can type texts quickly without accidently pressing the wrong button. Nokia users may be a bit baffled that the Siemens uses the '1' button for a space rather than the '0' button, but you soon get used to it. There is also the option of buying different coloured fascias, for those who get a high doing that sort of thing.
My personal mobile is with O2, but with the T Mobile Siemens I've actually got better recpetion 98% of the time. Battery life is good for the most part, with me usually only needing to charge it every week. However, if you use it a lot the battery life soon disappears, and I've had to charge it every other night on busy weeks.
Mine is on Pay-As-You-Go, so the committee can keep an eye on my talktime, which works out pretty inexpensive. It's a pretty durable phone too - I drop it all the time and still haven't had any problems.
All in all, a very good investment!
