I received this phone as a stocking filler from my girlfriend for Christmas. As far as I know she paid around £40 - £50 for it, and she ordered it from the Virgin Mobile website. My model of the phone is on pay as you go, £5 airtime was included in the package, and as it was ordered from the website a further £10 airtime was included. It also included a free headset which I have never used! All of this adds up to great value for money in my opinion.
In terms of service providers I would definitely recommend Virgin Mobile, as they are the cheapest I have come across. A text to another Virgin Mobile phone is only 3 pence, phone calls are relatively cheap, and until recently, every so often they will reward your loyalty with free credit. Now, instead, they let the rewards build up until they can reward you with a new phone. Anyway, back to the phone itself.
Features:
If you like to own the most up to date technology, and you want a modern phone with camera and video features, then the Siemens A60 is not for you. However, if you want a cheap phone that does the job, i.e. you can make phone calls and send texts, then this phone could be a good choice for those on a limited budget.
Polyphonic ring tones and vibration alert are impressive features; however, it does not possess a ring tone composer like some mobile phones. It features a clock, an alarm clock, and a calculator, and its large capacity is able to store 100 plus text messages in the inbox, and even more on top of that in the handy message archive.
The phonebook is able to store 100 names and numbers, which I feel is sufficient for personal use, unless you are very popular! However, if this phone was to be used for business use, this capacity may cause a problem.
Although the Siemens A60 lacks the newer features possessed by the most up to date phones on the market, it does boast some impressive features such as games and the internet.
It features 2 games, stack attack and magic picture. Stack attack is a game loosely based around the idea of the game Tetris, whilst magic picture is a picture puzzle game in which you have to arrange the pieces in the right order to form a picture.
The internet is accessed via wap, and allows you to get the most up to date information on music, sport, gossip and more.
Durability/Reliability
Although I have had a few small problems with this phone, it has been fairly reliable. I recently went to Glastonbury festival, and the battery lasted the whole time I was there. Of course I had my phone switched off some of the time, but we went to the festival on the Wednesday and returned on the Monday and my battery still had power left, which is pretty impressive I feel.
One irritating factor with this particular mobile phone is that it can be very slow to open new text messages, and will sometimes freeze and turn itself off. This is a very rare occurrence, but a major downside to this phone.
Size/Look
At 10 x 47 x 23 millimeters, the phone is fairly large, as you would expect of a phone in its price range. However it is still pocket size and hardly what some would refer to as a 'brick'. Weight wise, 85 grams isn't too disappointing, it feels light in the pocket and in the hand.
The colour screen is an attractive feature and the buttons are well spread out so it is easy to use.
If you want to jazz this phone up it also has an interchangeable cover feature which will appeal to some, although I have never bothered with this myself.
Summary
Overall I would recommend this phone to those on a budget who aren't bothered about fancy features and just want an easy simple to use phone. If you have more money to spend I would recommend going for a camera phone, which I certainly will be doing when I have the money.
Advantages: Value for money, colour screen, easy to use Disadvantages: The cancel button
I recently purchased my siemens A60 at the link. It was £60 on the orange network and included 5 texts free per day for a year. If you buy the text saver deal on other phones it costs £20 a year, so to get it free made the phone even more value for money.
Setting up my phone was relatively easy, with easy to follow instructions in the booklet. I did try to set it up online on the orange site but had problems as it kept restarting. When I rang the ... ...money considering the text saver was included. I like the colour screen and find the phone easy to navigate. I had never had a siemens phone before (only nokias and a motorola) so I had to adjust to some of the key changes, but this was very worthwhile and easy. ...

Advantages: A well built, reliable, cheap phone with a reasonable set of features Disadvantages: Quite an embarrassment to be seen with.
I've had this phone for two years. It was my first phone, and apart from an old Nokia I use sometimes, it's my only phone.
I'm obviously very happy with it. My parents bought me it as an entry level phone for about £50-£60.00 with Orange Pay as you go.
Good points
Sturdy phone. I've had it for two years and dropped it so many times. It's survived everything. It even survived a swim in the bath - it kept worryingly overheating for over a week afterwards, ... ...Battery life remains excellent. Over 2 years since I got it, it's still on its original battery, and still holds a charge for about 3-4 days (with little use) or about 2 days of heavy use (I'm approximating!).
Reception is great, the phone usually has full signal strength. On a trip to Wales where most other phones couldn't get reception mine could. This is probably due to the Network I was on rather than the phone, but still, it never lets me down ...

Advantages: Just a basic phone Disadvantages: None
...have one lol. Tis the Siemens A60 which I am going to tell you about now. I only just came into mobile technology a couple of months ago and didn't want a complicated phone as I was just wanting it for emergency purposes. So I went onto Ebay with and a friend advised me on this one so I put a bid in and got it for £15. When it arrived it was practically brand new and still had box and instruction manual etc. and was linked up to Virgin Mobile. Which ... ...There was £5 credit with the phone which was enough to get me started I guess. The phone is black in colour, the phone has around 6 hours talktime and around 250 hours of standby which means you don't have to charge up very often depending on how often you use it. Well what can I say about this phone well it is a phone and nothing else, allowing you to make and receive calls and send text messages. It does tend to come into the brick category compared ...

I got this phone as a present to replace my old phone. It's a plain model with no fancy features but I wouldn't use a camera anyway so that's no loss.
The phone is larger than many on the market now but is still pretty small. It has a small battery so feels very light. It has quite a large colour display screen which is easy to ready text messages on and shows about 6 lines of text at a time. The buttons are a good size and spaced out so they're ... ...I did sometimes with my old phone. The navigation button for paging up and down texts and settings I find a bit fiddly though.
Slightly annoying to start with is an aircraft check screen which displays when you switch the phone on and forces you to click OK or it shuts itself off. There doesn't appear to be any way of switching this off so you have to live with it every time you switch on.
From the main screen there's a 'menu' option which takes ...

Advantages: Cheap Disadvantages: Cheap feel, reception, ease of use, wait times
...I have chatted with other Siemens owners, who, interestingly, have the same complaint, regardless of signal provider.
What I need (& you can call me old fashioned here) is a cheap pay-as-you-go phone that makes phone calls & is easy + fast to use.
Cheap it may be, but the A60 was no cheaper than my old Sagem & does the job a sight poorer.
Oh yes - some of the buttons are not very positive either.
I will return to Sagem when I next find an unguarded ...

Advantages: Great all rounder Disadvantages: On the large side
...I got this phone after swopping my new SiemensA60 for it...and I definately got the better deal!
It has a nice large screen and although the picture quality is showing its age abit now, it is still good for sending MMS's to your mates on!
It has an okay range of polyphonic ring tones and the facility to download new ones via WAP so thats okay.
Staring to look a bit large now especially as the trend for flip phones is getting stronger now.
On the whole if you aren't a die hard techie then this phone will suit you!
I had never heard of the GX1 when I got mine but after a little play and losing of my Nokia knowledge, it came up trumps and it will be a little while before I buy a new one....

Advantages: Looks, interface Disadvantages: Some of the features are fairly poor
...This is only my second ever phone having had the SiemensA60 for a few years until it was completely out of date. I thought it was time to upgrade and after hearing how good the D-series was i bought this for £129 from Phones4U on Orange.
As with the previous models in the D series emphasis seems to be a lot on the looks of the phone, which in the case of the D800 are much better than some of its competitors. It has a really attractive balck finish and has chrome edging which really adds to the feeling of quality. The slide mechanism which is the main design feature is a smooth as, well... anything! and the keypad is not touch screen but is all level with each button not seperate, making textin much easier.
The user interface is really easy to use and the large '262,144 colour TFT LCD' makes it much better, especially...

...So I needed a cheap phone and quickly, I went into my local carphone warehouse. and saw this siemensa50 for £60. It'll do for now I thought, I had used the Siemens c35 before and this wasn't much different in its style.
At first it was dificult to readjust to its keys and texting system, as I only really used the phone to text with.
It has little novelties on it like walking ducks and things when pages are loading up, but compared to other phones I found that this was really slow, the software often crashed and even more strangely it would sometimes make these strange noises then turn itself off.
Altogether it is a simple phone to use, it does not have any luxuries, it is a no - frills phone if you will.
It attempts to be what a Nokia is but fails quite badly. Its not really a phonw for the kids as you can't get ringtones for it...
