Before I begin on this mission, to seek out new members, new opinions, to boldly forget my sad life as a Star Trek anorak. My mission is to purchase a mobile phone for once without it having to be up to the standards set by Star Fleet (sorry), or needing to fill out a requisition form, in triplicate, to ‘Q’ Section. The phone that mesmerised me was the Siemens C35i. It simply leapt from the pages of our work/club magazine. The features attracted me due to the fact that I am a sucker for gadgets. Some of my closer friends have bandied the term ‘Muppet’ as a euphemism for my gullibility; I don’t know but I am sure Anne-Marie will feel appeased.
Down to the opinion. Technical stuff straight from the manual. · GSM Class 4 (2 Watts) Frequency range 880-960 MHZ · GSM Class 1 (1 Watt) Frequency range 1710-1880 MHZ · Weight 110g · Size 118 x 46 x 21 mm · Operating voltage 3.6V · Power Consumption 400 mA · Operating Temperature 0-45 Degrees Centigrade · Standby Time 50-180 hours · Talk Time 90-300 minutes.
This phone is a little beauty in design and features. It fits discreetly in any pocket or handbag, therefore making it a universal phone, seamlessly crossing the boundaries of sex and age, whereas I feel that Nokia tend to aim different phones at specific clients. Features include, and I am not going into too much detail here because we all know the features of mobile phones;
SMS, fine but predictive texting T9 can be a pain. Alarm, very handy.
Stopwatch, did not know I had it until today. Ring tones and Logos, unfortunately if you want the latest annoying ringbone or a personalised logo then stick with Nokia. You cannot download them with this model. You can, however, compose your own if you have the music and patience. Bear in mind it will probably sound nothing like what you want. Type in to a search engine for Siemens ring tones. I had a great one bookmarked but lost it when resetting my computer back to factory settings.
WAP- please, bought it for this feature. Anne-Marie is right I am a Muppet. Not very good. The Vizzavi service (I am on Vodaphone) is pants; they have a find and seek facility, which will locate Banks, Restaurants, and Cinemas etc., from your current location based on your postcode. It would be nice if the damned thing worked properly. It obviously does not use GPS (Global Satellite Positioning) technology, as it is usually 3 miles out. The rest of the features are explained very succinctly in the manual and I do not wish to quote it through laziness and the fact that if you read this, and other opinions re: this product, you will not be disappointed. You can also visit their website at www.my-siemens.com, it is easily navigated and well laid out site.
On the downside, there are two niggles that I have with this model are: I did read, on the advice of my Mum that it ranks high on the Radiation emission chart. I do not know how seriously to take that yet; but it does tie in with my second point
Which is: It gets hot and burns your ear if you liked to talk. All in all I am satisfied but that includes the deal I got at the time. I will be changing it in April for two reasons, first I want to see if I have as much hassle as other Ciao members (my billing company is Singlepoint, check out the ops by Moose et al on this company.) and mainly because I am a Muppet. There will be new gadgets out there.

Having the S35i as my own phone (there's an op somewhere on my list) I got one of these for my wife, who rarely uses it, but likes to have it around for emergencies. I agree with your point about Vizzavi WAP being pantz, but they are still good phones despite the limitations of the service. I reckon the find and seek thing must just locate the cell you're operating from and give you answers based on that. Nice wee phone though, and a nice op too. Steve

I don't know if the fact that WAP is disappointing is necessarily down to the phone, although my S35i was useless for WAP - only use it to get the latest Test Match score when out playing cricket in the middle of nowhere myself... Mike
