I haved owned and used a variety of different phones throughout the past 3 years and unfortunately for my exasperated parents become a bit of a mobile maniac. I become quite quickly bored with whatever phone I may own and move on to saving up for the next one rather soon after buying each one. With the Siemens C45, however, I have so far shown no such impatience.
OK, so the Siemens C45 was not my first choice. I was besotted with the Samsung T100 and the Motorola V70, with coloured screens and twirly bits and gadgets galore. However, these proved slightly on the expensive side, and I am not financially gifted, so I set my sights a little lower. And I wasn't disappointed.
The Siemens C45 is around £80 on Pay As You Go, a relatively cheap price as mobiles go, and with it are several features. Firstly, it is a small phone but not so small it is a) impossible to use or b) easy to misplace. In my opinion it is a very attractive phone, with no aerial and a rounded look, and the changeable fascias mean that you can keep it somewhat personalised. The fascias are also inexpensive, around £12 compared to £25 for some Nokia ones. The buttons are easy to press (if that makes sense); unfortunately, if you are one to spend a lot of time texting in the library, it may be a bad choice because they click and cannot be changed. The screen is orange, which may or may not be a good thing... I suppose it depends on opinion. Personally, I would rather a blue screen.
The main problem I foresee people having with the Siemens C45 is working out how to use it; as a previous Siemens owner, I had no problems but I have friends who own Nokias and do not understand my phone. To me, it's simply a case of having a glance through the manual but people who are a trifle impatient may not like this.
I can't say that I know how this phone compares to others in terms of robustness, apart from having dropped it once on concrete - it still works, which must be a good thing. I have scratches on the cover now though. Battery standby time seems pretty good; I was advised once to only charge the phone when it was completely out of battery because apparenly this makes it last longer...not sure if it works but I can get quite a long life out of my battery.
The features on the phone include the usual plus a clock (plus an alarm clock), an organiser (diary, notes, birthdays and the like), the internet (although I personally think WAP is a waste of time), 20 ringtones plus 5 spaces available for downlaoded ones (I have the Matrix theme), a melody manager and three games. I think the games are excellent. It would probably disappoint Snake fans, despite a great game called Stack Attack which is like Tetris except you have a little man pushing the blocks around. There is also Balloon Shoot (exactly as it sounds) and Battlemail. Games can be downloaded from the internet on the phone. The most unique feature on the phone is several duck characters which appear as you turn on and off your phone - you can have a welcome note if you wish but I prefer the friendly sight of a duck swimming in water.
I love my Siemens phone and believe it to be excellent value for money; it is attractive and has a large range of features but may be difficult to use for some people.
