Now I know that Nokia dominate the market, but this phone is for those with a bit more style and who like sleek curves as opposed to a brick.
I bought a sim-free version for £140 from phones4U on the high street. So it was just plug-n-play. Put in my sim card from my old phone and away you go, no contact/security PIN/text etc details lost.
Main features **Polyphonic ringtones - Proper sounds, not just beeps. std sounds are a cat, a duck and an ambulance. It sounds like one is actually outside! (amongst lots of tunes) Far less annoying in public than those pearcing beeps. **Recording facility - Record your own sounds. You can even set it up so the ring tone is the actual voice of the person calling **Groups - Allows any number of people to be assigned a ring tone or send one text to many people (friends/Family/Partner etc) **Multi settings vibra-alert. Various patterns for vibration can be selected. MMMmmmm vibration! **Current date and time can be on display on the front screen **Uses GPRS data transfer - in normal terms, sends texts/fax/data etc v.fast if network supports it (Vodaphone does) **WAP internet access - Dont use myself, but its a feature. **Text messages - T9 predictive text, with personal dictionary so you can add unknown names etc, can send graphics and sound to other compatible sets (not just C55) **Credible games - old school remember prince of Persia? **Handsfree calls without car kit. **Babysitter protection so you can limit outgoing calls **Voicedialing - i personally don't want to walk down the street shouting names at my phone, but it's a feature. **Appointments / Alarm clock. I have the alarm set on the "Slow Blues " ringtune, a nice gentle wakeup as opposed to shock awake. **Calculator **Currency Convertor - For those Euro conversions on a beer run to mainland Europe! **Screen "saver" have your own graphic all the time or just when the phone is not in use. **Text message delivery reports (if network supports it. so that's all but O2 then) **Changeable covers - Handy if your clumsy and scratch the screen
Plus all the usual mobile phone features (hide i.d. from other callers etc)
A very user-friendly keypad, a vast improvement from the cluttered C45.
Synopsis: A v.compact v.lightwieght phone with excellent call clarity with doody ringtones. (forgive the use of the word doody, but they are!!!) To sample what a polyphonic phone is visit the my-siemens web site. The only downside with this phone is that the first half a second of a tone fades up whether you want it to or not, so a short tone for an incoming text message is no good, although there are a couple of tones supplied that are good for text that don't go on too long (including a polyphonic ver of the traditional da-da-daaaa-da-da-da--da-da-da)
Yes i do think this is the best phone around (if you don't want colour or photos), and no i am not linked to siemens in anyway. I just appreciate good design.
Hope this helps, and enjoy.

Very good review. I dont see the point of colour phones myself, so I chose this one. My choice proved a good one, because I was mugged the other week, and they gave my phone back to me, claiming it was "rubbish looking" and that they couldn't sell it on the street. I've now had it for 3 years, and it still aint broke! adios :-p

Very good review, tells me what I need to know. I got this phone as a "free gift" (note the inverted commas) for upgrading my One.Tel call package to One.Plan 40:40, which is 40 free texts and 40 free calls per month for only £14.99!! Haven't tried it yet, as I've just got it. However I will probably try it now Ive read your review. Cheers, Chris :)
