Advantages: Great cast, great storylines. Disadvantages: Plays on the emotional card too much.
I'm not a big fan of English hospital dramas but love American ones, for some reason. I especially love ER, I even remember the first ever episode I watched when Dr Green died and I have been an avid fan since.
It first started in September 1994, and is still going strong now with it's 14th season and next week it's airing it's 300th episode on English telivsion.
The Plot
ER follows the doctors/nurses of the ER and their patients, in the fictional hospital County General Hospital. It's an Emmy Award winning seasons has lasted for 14+ seasons and is still going strong. The doctors/nurses of County's ER confront the daily challenges that face in most American hospitals. They have to deal with overcrowded waiting rooms, no staff, and violent patients. They also must teach the next gen doctors who will later take their place ...

Advantages: great cast, realistic plots Disadvantages: George Clooney left
I have been watching ER since it began, and I love it. I have always enjoyed the medical shows, and this one is no exception. I think this show is realistic, and does a good job of showing just enough of the blood and guts to make it interesting without making it disgusting. The cast of characters is splendid. The match between nurse Hathaway and the character played by George Clooney (now departed) was a great match, and the birth of the twins, was great(albeit a tad unrealistic). Dr. Green and his divorce, his mugging, the death of his mother, and his relationship with Elizabeth has taken us through a roller coaster of emotions with him. He is refreshing and real, and you can almost believe he is a Doctor.
I think my favorite character is Dr. Benton. I like his coldness but the deep down caring for others. The birth of his son ...

Advantages: Best season since no. 8, some great acting & storylines Disadvantages: Can't ever live up to the first few seasons
For the past two days hubby and I have been watching ER season 12 on DVD. Amazingly I have not reviewed ER before now, despite now having seasons 1-12 box sets. Back in the mid-late 1990s ER was without a doubt my favourite TV programme. When season 1 came out on DVD in 2004 I was so excited (although I had them recorded on video) and bought it straight away, and eagerly awaited the new seasons as they came out and bought them immediately (did this for the first 5 anyway!).
Introduction
For those who don't know, ER is a hospital drama set in a busy Chicago ER department (in County General Hospital), which was created by the late Michael Crichton. Far more dramatic than Casualty, and far more realistic than any of its predecessors, ER took the world by storm. I remember once having a conversation with a surgeon ...
