Full review

As those of you who have read my other reviews will know, the Siemens MC60 is the 4th phone in my collection of 6 in the last 3 years.

While shopping in my home town of Swansea last year, out of the blue I decided I wanted a camera phone. I ventured to many different phone shops that day and eventually ended up in The Link, where a sales assistant immediately pounced on me.
'Can I help you?' he asked. 'No thanks' I said, feeling a little under pressure. 'I've already decided. I want that one.' And that was it, I'd blown £59.99 in a matter of seconds without even thinking about it. I loved the funky 'X' shaped keypad and that fact that it was so cheap at the time for a camera phone.

The Siemens MC60 is not a bad little phone but I found it took a long time to load anything. I'm not sure if this was caused by my network(T-mobile) or the memory on the phone but it was always a long wait before I got to see my pictures or texts. All you see is LOADING.......

Menu Options
============
By pressing left on the large shaped button, a menu will appear on the screen. There are 9 options available for you to take your pick from. First is the...

Camera - I'd say this was about average. The quality is not brilliant but at least you can tell who the picture is of. Don't even try taking night picures as all you'll get is a dull black screen that you cant even see a person in.
LCD Preview for pictures lets you see the picture you've taken before you save it to your phone. Also there is a dedicated picture key (5), with which you can take a snapshot with 2 clicks. Handy eh??
There is no zoom or special effects. However, each photo can be enlarged when being viewed.

Messages - Selecting this option will bring the options to
create a new SMS - Send a text using T9 predictive text or using the key press method. Up to 7 lines of text can be seen at a time allowing you to clearly see what you've written.
Create a new MMS - Send pictures, text and sound as one.
Inbox - You can store up to 200 messages here. A little icon at the side of the message will tell you where it is saved - Sim or Phone. Also whether it is a picture message or a text message.
Message Setup - Where you set up the messages. lol.

Downloads - This gives you the opportunity to download new pictures, games and sounds.Picking one will connect you to the T-mobile website where you can download items from £1.50-£3.00. I never used this option as I hate the thought of paying for something I can get free from the internet.
In this section the games can be found. There are two games pre-loaded and 1 photo editor to add a little bit of fun to your life by making your family look like clowns. lol.
This is also the place where you can find your pictures and ringtones.

Records - Look at the calls you have missed, recieved and dialled and decide if you want to ring them back, delete them or correct their number. The call duration is also here and you can reset the clock if you want to.

Setup - Change the loudness of the phone, the wallpaper, screensaver, colour schemes and make your own greeting message. You can use a camera image for your wallpaper or screensaver or one of the phones. You can also change the contrast and illumination if the screen.
Change your ringtone to one of the many exciting tunes the phone holds or download your own. Silent mode is also here if you want to switch the sound off.

Phonebook - Phone's memory allows storing up to 100 numbers. It can only hold 1 number and 1 e-mail for each 1 name which is a let down. In addition, it is also possible to assign a photo or picture to each entry which shows up when recieving a call. Contacts can be sorted into 9 groups, a different ringtone can be asigned to each group.
You can create voice tags for up to 20 phone numbers.

Organiser - You can choose from a monthly view, weekly view and daily view. Add all your appointment and set alarms so you dont forget them. Special menu items allow looking through all special events, for example, meetings, notes and reminders and make it easy . Up to 500 events can be stored in the organizer memory.

Extras - Useful applications such as a calculator, currency converter, stop-watch (not very accurate), countdown timer, alarm-clock can be set up to become recurrent) are located in this menu. Here you also get access to voice commands.

T-zones - Allows you to go onto WAP and visit the T-mobile website to buy games and various other stuff. I found T-mobile charged a lot while surfing on WAP so I hardly ever used this for that reason. After changing to Virgin I frequently go on WAP, at least once a week.

-------------------------------

Not a bad little phone. A good phone for starters in the mobile world as it is easy to use and can do all the things that you want it to do. If you are looking for a decent camera then try another phone, as this one is dark and sometimes blurred unless in brilliant sunlight.

It is small and fits comfortably in your pocket but I felt that the X shaped buttons were a bit loose and I was scared that they would fall out.

The battery on this phone doesnt last and I had to charge it at least every two days to keep it alive.

Calls were crisp and clear and there was no problems at all hearing the person at the other end.

X-pressit covers are available for this phone but dont take the chance and do it yourself as it is a very tricky process to carry out. Visit a mobile phone shop and they'll do it for £10 or less.

Conclusion
=========
If I could go back I would have taken my time and chosen a different phone. Not to say this phone isn't good but if you want it for the camera or its games then I suggest you buy another model. If you just want it for calls and texts (what mobiles were actually made for) then this phone will do you fine.

Thanks for reading.

'X'tra great little phone
Review of Siemens MC60 by mouse_20

Advantages: Great design... fab keypad
Disadvantages: Bit like relatives you never see in that it keeps forgetting my name!

I've had this great little phone for just over 2 years now and I still love it... it might not be top of range any more (not sure it ever was to tell the truth) but if you're not too bothered about all the gadgets that the latest mobiles have and just need something that's easy to use but still pretty stylish then this is a good one to look at. Some basic info... Dimensions - 109 x 46 x 21 mm - it's not a brick, but neither is it so small you can't ...
...86g - fairly light. Talk time - up to 300 min Standby time - up to 250 hours - My phone is now 2 years old but the battery is still great and only usually needs charging about 3 times a fortnight so is still able to manage this. Display - 4096 colours, 7 lines, 101x80 pixels - ok, so its not great resolution, but as long as you're not banking on taking award winning pictures its fine. Built in camera - this is a nice extra but I would definitely ... Read review

Lots to Love, Slight niggles to Hate.
Review of Siemens MC60 by heffer1234

Advantages: Plenty of features in a versatile package
Disadvantages: Poor design in places, buyers may expect to much

...packed phone like all models Siemens seem to produce. Although the one thing which seems to be lacking from this particular Siemens handset is Quality. By design Siemens do not make many bad handsets. But this handset is lacking compared to others introduced by the company in the past and present. If your a new to Siemens then the differences may not be apparent. If your familiar to Siemens phones the Navigation and Interface is similar to previous ...
...definitely scores highly. Where Siemens really slipped up was in the way things work. I my opinion through using the phone for the last 5 months functions work correctly but not as quick as you’d expect. Let me give you a few examples of were frustration will soon set in. haven't Siemens come along way since the MC60...
Review of Siemens MC60 by mimicmwb

Advantages: good looks, ergonomical, light weight
Disadvantages: camera quality is poor, lack of features

...years ago I received the Siemens MC60, this was after much persuasion on my part as I suddenly desired a camera phone. I know you should never find out how much somebody spent on a present for you but I did, it was £79.99!! This may sound expensive but this was 2 years ago last Christmas. I think the phone was relatively new at that time. The Siemens MC60 is a good phone if you are using it primarily for phone calls. By this I mean that it isn't ...
...crisp, clear reception as the Siemens MC60. RECEPTION EXCELLENT!! :D I found that after charging the phone, which usually took 30-40 minutes to charge fully, that its battery life died fairly soon. I would say that with a full battery, constant use and turning the phone off, it would last maybe 12 hours!! BATTERY LIFE RUBBISH! Also, just incase anyone was wondering why I didn't mention this, the package includes the charger and so the battery life ... Read review

Review of Siemens MC60 by rory7411

Advantages: GOOD RECEPTION
Disadvantages: POOR QUALITY, LACK OF DOWNLOADS ETC

...download a small application from Siemens to enable you to make messages on your computer before downloading them. - Camera - there's a small camera in the back of the phone that can be activated by clicking 5. Now, I've been to the Siemens website and they show a picture of two girls taking their photo with the MC60 camera and you can see the image produced on the screen - good and clear and picture like. So, advertising puffs aside, I was expecting ...
...a serial cable (£29.99 from Siemens on-line shop). Personally I find some of the keys a little difficult to use, even though I've got small fingers I find myself using my nails to dial. Sound is excellent in this model, I can't fault Siemens on this point at all, you don't need to hold the phone to your ear to hear it as the on board loudspeaker is excellent. One very good feature of the phone is that it should be impossible to turn it on accidently, ... Read review

Cheap and (it will make you) cheerful
Review of Siemens MC60 by niksmiff69

Advantages: cheap, stylish, lots of modern features
Disadvantages: That Titanium is actually plastic!

If Swatch ever made a mobile phone, it would be the MC60. It's a funky handful of a phone that looks good and yet unusual, has all of the features that a state of the art handset should have, and has a colour screen and a built in camera - all for under £100. The MC60 isn't a little flip phone and is a centimetre longer than the Nokia 8210, but it does have a built in aerial, so no more torn trouser pockets. It is very light - 85g or so - and that's ...
...the brushed metallic titanium the pictures show. Personally, I don't mind that....if you're as clumsy as I am and drop phones in carparks or on the pavement, it will survive the bounce and it won't be scratched afterwards. A plus point. The keys, arranged in a distinctive X pattern, take a couple of calls to get used to but soon feel relatively natural. The colour screen is big but not the biggest on the market; not as big as the Samsung T100 or ... Read review

Not German Style In Aliminum (But Close To it)
Review of Motorola L6 by  Champ666

Advantages: Stylish and Easy To Use
Disadvantages: Lack of intuitive Name search

...Some strange whim took me to the O2 shop to get a new phone, my old Siemens MC60 was perfectly serviceable but to be honest was a complete bugger to use. I decided that I was only going to pay 50 quid but instead spent £79-99 on this one as a Pay as you go upgrade, and I got a tenner for my old phone and 10 quid's worth of credit too...... so in effect it cost me £59-99. 1. Taking and Making Calls This is what a phone does and it does it well. The Speaker is clear and audible, and does not induce a need to shout as I have experienced with some phones. The Phone book is easy to navigate and basically it does the job of a phone very well. 2. Phone Book The phone book is easy to use and navigate as previously mentioned. If you store the number to the phone rather than the SIM card then you can add photos, addresses, e... Read review

It's such a shame!!
Review of Sharp GX30 by  Lizzie4

Advantages: Brilliant camera and screen
Disadvantages: Not a very good signal

...I've wanted this phone for ages and finally got it for Christmas, I was sooo please with the quality of the phone, the camera is amazing, it's easy to use, it looks good, however compared to my last phone (the Siemens MC60) the reception strength is terrible!! The difference can be a couple of inches, at work I used to have my old phone on my PC and get a great reception, but with the GX30 I've had to move it 6 inches to the left just to get a decent signal, which means whenever I want to send a text I have to prop it up for about a minute until I get a decent signal, it's very frustrating!! I'm so disappointed!... Read review
