If Swatch ever made a mobile phone, it would be the MC60. It's a funky handful of a phone that looks good and yet unusual, has all of the features that a state of the art handset should have, and has a colour screen and a built in camera - all for under £100.
The MC60 isn't a little flip phone and is a centimetre longer than the Nokia 8210, but it does have a built in aerial, so no more torn trouser pockets. It is very light - 85g or so - and that's because it's made of a very tough plastic and not the brushed metallic titanium the pictures show. Personally, I don't mind that....if you're as clumsy as I am and drop phones in carparks or on the pavement, it will survive the bounce and it won't be scratched afterwards. A plus point.
The keys, arranged in a distinctive X pattern, take a couple of calls to get used to but soon feel relatively natural. The colour screen is big but not the biggest on the market; not as big as the Samsung T100 or V200, but as big as the colour Nokias currently on the market. The camera can be set up to various resolutions to enhance the speed of upload and MMS-ing, and works well. The brightness can be adjusted to aid viewing and filming - again, another plus point.
Now for the no's; no data cable for download to your PC, no case or carrying strap, no other networks apart from T-Mobile unless you buy the unlocked versions on EBay, and no guarantee that the battery will last a year - the instruction booklet actually states that the battery capacity will reduce every time you charge and discharge it and may only last six months!
I got a good deal on this phone: £10 off the £99 asking price with a trade-in of my knackered Motorola T191 and a free X-Men 1.5 DVD, worth another tenner.
In conclusion, I'd recommend this telephone overall if you want a stylish, functional, feature-packed mobile and if you can't afford the flashier Sony or Samsung chrome phones, which are £50-£100 more. It'll be a perfect stocking filler for Christmas 2003 but I'm sure the game will have been raised by this time next year and you'll get more for your £99 then. But for now...it's good.

Great, my dad gave me this phone because he couldn't work it! This is a nicely written and easy to understand review... a particularly helpful read for myself since I can't work it yet as my dad kept the T-Mobile sim card that came with it. I now know what to expect. A question though, do you know of anywhere where I can get this phone unlocked cheaply? Reply in my guestbook, Natalie :-)
