After seeing the exceptional external sleekness of this phone i felt the need to upgrade to one myself, and by doing so i have decided to write this review based on my experience over the past 5 months ive had it in my posession. This is brief, and i would highly recommend you look into some dedicated phone review sites to go in-depth on all the features etc.
Firstly, this was the only Siemens i have ever purchased and so the layout and usability was completely new to me - although picking it up is not difficult (its a phone!). Ive always felt Siemens as a company were below the competition in phone manufacture. Companies such as Nokia, Samsung and Sony-Ericsson are by far more advanced in their development and this shows in the internal 'brains' of the SL65. The menu is much like a newer symbian Nokia or Samsung in that there are icons which are navigated to via the joystick, although a list view is possible by changing a few settings in Profile.
The speed of accessing the features is nothing to wow at, and the actual usefulness of some features is highly questionable. For instance, it has a virtual fitness trainer which provides instructions for working out - completely useless if we are being realistic as to the phones real use.
As a dial phone, the model does the job well, the volume is adjustable and it has a built in speakerphone which although isnt crisp in quality - it is useful in some situations when both hands are already tied up! The quality of sound is very good - making it easy to pick up what people are saying in loud public places where sometimes you just wish you had a 'mute' button.
The SMS/Text feature is a standard, growing, part of the mobile industry. This phone, like its predecessor features a T9 predictive text service as well as the normal character type and numeric input. Formats such as SMS Text, MMS Multimedia are supported. However, email is not.
The camera, although internal (unlike the external add on of its prior model the SL55) appears rather dated when compared to some of its competitors. There is no built-in flash and the quality is poor (640x480 VGA). I wouldn't buy this phone to double up as a camera!
The external appearance of this phone is very very good. Its aesthetic form is almost second to none in terms of fashionable yet usable design (who wants to use a Nokia stick to look cool when you look an idiot trying to work it!). The screen is large enough although the poor 64k resolution is fairly disappointing (however this does increase the battery life). The slide is sturdy and you can tell that this phone is well built by its solid feel. The keypad, is exceptional. For a small phone like this, you'd expect to be fingernailing each key and struggling to get any sort of flow from texting. This does not happen on the SL65, the buttons are large enough to be used properly and have built in glow for when nightime arrives.
The lifetime of this phone is actually fairly good, ive gone for about 3 days with fairly consistant texting going on. Although phone manufacturers claim their phones last months without a recharge - they barely ever live up to it. I can assure you this phone is kind on battery life. One technical problem i am experiencing now, however, is the battery sometimes cuts out when i slide the phone back into its small form. This is perhaps from impact (i dont hammer it!) This happens around once every few days and after 5 months of ownership.
Ive had no problems with the reception on this phone, i even pick up the odd reception in confined, areas where you wouldn't expect.
If i was to be honest, id recommend this phone as a fashion phone suitable only for phoning and texting. If cameras and features are your thing, look elsewhere. Its good for what is was meant to be good for.
Advantages: lots! Disadvantages: had to be replaced due to serious fault
...Being a great fan of Siemens mobiles I expected an easy to use, reliable phone. I got the phone on contract so didnt technically pay for it but it was valued at £299 for insurance purposes (from dialaphone). The phone has a colour screen, MMS, GPRS, infared, digital camera and many more features but these in particular are the most important and what attracted me to the phone. I have found the camera to be superb. You can choose from a variety of ... ...you can make adjustments to the light to suit the environment you are in. the picture quality itself (on the premium setting)is great. The images are sharp and it picks up light and colours really well. You can also record some short video clips with the camera but these are not very good quality and ive found that the sound always comes out really loud.
The coulour screen i would rate at the same level of quality as the camera. Unfourtunately I ...

The Siemens SL65 comes standard with three games, which are: Bubble Boost (a platform game a bit like rayman), Golf Pro 3D and Siemens Rally all of which can be quite addictive if you start playing them. It also comes with some applications, Download Assistant (a program that searches the WAP internet for content for your phone), Fit & Mobile (an exercise program), Life Manager (a program that lets you set reminders for yourself), ... ...can send your photos to Siemens website), and Photo Editor ( which does exactly what it says on the tin).
The phone also has a calendar feature as well as a dictaphone to help you remember those all important dates!
The WAP internet function is quite good, I have found it to be faster than my old phone and easier to use as well. To start the internet you just need to press one of the soft keys when it is on the main screen (no scrolling down huge ...

...Boost, Golf Pro 3D and Siemens 3D Rally), comes crammed-full of little animations and pictures, and has a lot of cute little polyphonic tones.
Handling-
In my opinion the SL65 is quite easy to use. It has a little joystick that looks small and prone to mistakes, but is actually quite a cool little addition that's easy to handle. Writing texts is quick and easy, and even faster if you switch on the 'T9 Input' ( a litle thing that writes words very ... ...different views. Advantages: Good looking, nice sliding action easy to navigate. Disadvantages: Poor camera, easily scratched screen turns off in your pocket.
Had this phone 18 months now so this review is a bit over due.
But you can still buy the phone new or second hand, so it must be popular to have lasted this long as phones seem to be continually moving on. If their no good they just get discarded and replaced with a newer model, that doesn't always mean better.
Prices for this phone range from, £150 to £200.
But it is also available on a cantract.
Mine came free on a Vodafone contract with manual, ... ...open all i wanted to do was try this phone, it looked and felt fantastic, but as with all new phones you have to charge the battery for about 17 hours. This is such a disappointment, mobile phone companys should pre charge the batteries so you can be up and running as soon as you open the box.
I'm not a manual reader and jumped straight into the deep end and started filling the phone with numbers. The manual is very straight forward and all in English. ...

Sounds and Pictures and that-
The Siemens SL65 comes preloaded with many fun tones and sounds, aswell as still and moving little animations. It also includes pictures of beautiful sights, such as a pretty tiger and a mountain.
Some other little things-
Aswell as all those great things, the phone also comes with all those other little features that make ... ...an alarm clock, a sound recorder, a calculator and a unti converter.
Ease of use-
Don't judge a book by its cover. Just because the joystick on the phone looks small, in my opinion it is quite easy to use, and very manageable. Quick texting? Forget about it- you'll write a text with this phone faster than you can say 'I need more credit!'.
Quality of Sound-
The quality of sound is very much acceptable, but not totally flawless. Sometimes you ...

Manufacturer's product description
The SL65 is a true jewel in technology and design. And like any jewel, you have to slide the two shells of this tiny giant to open it up. Once uncovered, the inside of the SL65 unveils a whole set of high-tech features. A built-in digital camera allows for video and image capturing in excellent quality. And just in case you are for once not right in the middle of the action, the digital still camera features a 5x zoom function. Why this mobile phone is called a jewel becomes clear, when you take a closer look at the detailed finish of the Siemens SL65. An attractive wrap-around band design highlights the gorgeous appearance of this slider phone. The dynamic touch of the two surfaces is as handsome when the phone is closed as it convinces opened up. And when it comes to good looks, the 65 thousand color TFT display of the Siemens SL65 leaves no expectations unfulfilled. The large 130x130 pixel screen opens your eyes to a world almost as colorful as reality. By the way: if you wish to escape the latter for a while, you can enjoy some of the greatly entertaining applications preinstalled to the SL65 such as 3D Golf or a 3D Rally simulation. Almost needless to say that this top notch mobile features triband technology and Internet access via GPRS. And if you would like to enhance this unique design-phone, there are plenty of practical accessories for you to choose from. Like the stylish Headset Purestyle, the only tool pretty enough to be attached to the SL65. Or the CarKit Easy, a simple to install and use handsfree option for the times when you are on the road.
