The Siemens SX1 is newest phone bought out by Siemens. I will start by telling you what you get with the phone. You get your usual adapter that comnes with all phones, and the battery, plus about 5 different manuals in 5 languages. in addition these usualls you also earphones that are also the handsfree, a USB cable to link your SX1 with your computer, and a CD ROM with extra games, polyphonic tunes, pictures, screen savers and software for moving files to and from the phone. the conection for the adapter and handsfree are all the same as recent siemens phones which i have used on the M55, and i know that the S55 SL55, also have the same conection.
Before starting the phone needs to be charged, which takes about 3hrs. Then you are ready to go.
As with all phones it has the text message with the predictive T9 format. The unique design of the SX1 has put the number keys up the side of the large screen, which does take abit of getting used to, but this has been recognised and Siemens have included a game to help you get used this which I will explain more about later. When selecting messages you have the option of text, MMS, or E-Mail.
Contacts ------------- This is the part where you can store your phone numbers. As with other newer you can store home and mobile numbers, email addresses, company nameinfact the options are endless as you can creat your own fields, you can even add a picture the person, so when they call you see their face on the screen.
30 of your contact numbers can have voice dialing attached to them. so you haveno need to search through the contacts you can just say their name and it rings.
Records ------------ In this section the phone stores all phone calls, missed calls, sms, data calls, so you can see quick and easily all activity of the phone, it also shows the exact time and date of missed calls.
WAP ------ Wireless Application Protocol as I am sure you all know now. Along with this 'old' way of accessing the interent on your phone it also comes with GPRS Class 10. This gives you faster access to wap sites and quick dowloads of ring tunes and games.
Extras --------- Camera =======
the camera can be easily accessed by pressing the button the side of the camera(of which there are two, the other being for handsfree).
There are 3 types of snapshot picture you can take.
Miniature- which shows the screen at 80x96 Pixels and saved with same number.
Standard- Which has a resolution of 160x120 pixels and save with the same number.
Full Screen- this shows a resolution 160x208 pixels on the screen but save as 480x640.
The camera includes a 4x optical zoom.
Images are easily saved and renamed and accessed. on the phones memory you can store a maximum of 61 photos on the best quality setting.
Images can be put into the image fun software on the phone and you can edit them with different icans added to the picture or effects added to them, which can then be sent to other people or out as the wall paper for the phone.
one problem I have encountered when using the camera is that it does sometimes tend to hang for a while, and then will, on its own, boot itself back to the wallpaer.
Radio --------- The phone has its own built in FM radio. To use it you need to plug in the headphones that come with the phone, as these are the antena. Finding stations can done on quick search or by manual search, and, if you know the frequency, can type it in. Your six favourite Fm radio stations can be saved on the phone.
MP3 ------ You can also add you favourite songs to the phone, and play them on the MP3 player, but to do this you need to buy a multimedia card and store the tracks on there as the has about 3MB of spare memory froms it 29Mb capacity.
Organiser --------------- Store appointments, aniversaies, or weekly meetings, in the calender. Alarms can also be set for these so that you may never forget them.
You can view the calender in three ways. On a day view, weekly view or a monthly view.
A feature of the calender I like is that you can get phone to automaticaly send a sms message to any of your contacts on a given at you specified time. So you dont have to remember to send a birthday greetings message.
Voice memo does exactly what it says, record yourself a message. or well anything.
Calculator- as with all phones nowadays so do not really nedd to go into this.
Converter-put in you own convertion options for currencys, and mile into kilometers etc.
World clock so many different cities I have not had time to count them all.
Games ---------- Sitris- Its tetris
Mozzies-My Favourite. you have to shoot the mozzies flyong around by moving the phone to aim the cross-hairs at those mozzies. The background comes though the camera so you shoot mozzies, say in your front room.
TypeGun- this is the game that helps you get to grips with the new key arrangments. A word appears on the screen and you type it. as the game progresses you start typing letters numbers and adding in capital letters. It really does help.
Infrared ----------- You can connect the phone to another phone or printer, or computer and send data to and from them. Then problem with infrqared is that both the sender and receiv er have to be inview of each other.
Bluetooth ------------- Along with infrared, the phone also has Bluetooth. this again is another way of conecting the phone, except this way phone can be anywhere within a 10 metre radius of the receiver. Both of these mean that you can send pictures and messages to people free of charge. If you have bluetooth open you can be contacted by anyone with a bluetooth handset, but you can aslo make the phone hidden so it will not be found by others.

Advantages: loads of features, great camera and bluetooth Disadvantages: the keypad design
I think that this phone has many great features and was one of the first phones to combine them all together. The FM radio is one of the best features and it tunes extremely quickly with excellent sound quality. The bluetooth support is also excellent, and the mosquito game that comes with it is also fun. When i first bought the phone, it was a little unresponsive, so i had to upgade the firmware, but since i've done that, it's been far better than ... ...is slowed down a fair bit by the keypad design and it means you can't text using one hand. Battery life is fine, normally around 1 week, which is really good for any smartphone.
The Mp3 facility also works fine, although make sure you get an MMC card for them (only about £20 these days) as SD Cards don't work. ...

I own a computer shop and sell pritty much every electrical thing you can think of, i think anyway.
I bought the SX1 for sale but decided to keep one for myself, i found it quite hard to use as the number buttons are next to the screen. I personally recommend to those who want the features of this phone to go with the Nokia 6600 and the 3650. I personally find it easy to text with a phone that has buttons at the bottom but the SX1 is supposed to ... ...you have to learn the button layout.
SCREEN
It has a bright screen making it easy to view what is on the phone. On the top it shows the signal strenth and the Battery Life.
WAP
The SX1 has its own wap browser instead of opera which is used on new nokia mobiles.
MEMORY
My phone didn;t come with a MMS memory card but they can be bought upto 256mb at realy good prices. This is a nice slot on the side which is good so you dont have to turn the ...

Advantages: cool, impress your freinds Disadvantages: totally impractical in a car
...there is a serious problem with these kits you ought to be aware of.
i installed route 66 mobile 7 symbian (nokia) this week and found to my horror:
1. there is no way on theior symbian versions of getting speed trap data into it.
2. on my nokia 7610, i cant use the bluetooth headset i have at the same time as the GPS bluetooth transceiver unit.
its also got a cumbersome cradle you wouldnt want in a tidy car, and would attract theives unlike a compact unit you can sucker off into your pocket.
Nice idea, but definitely not a satnav for speeders or businessmen unless you got a multi-bloototh channeling phone.
cheaper to buy a garmin i say
another issue, is by putting their tiny 256mb MMC card into your phone, you just lost all your pics and vids etc, so its not so simple, i bought a 2GB MMC and copied old and their data onto...

Do I need a computer to use this software?
Surprisingly no the software comes on a 256MB mini memory card (with a converter for the standard size of course) there is also about 90MB of free space on the card which can be used for any kind of data storage.
What else is included with the memory card?
Also included is a cigarette charger for the GPS receiver and a stylish neck strap presumably for wearing the thing around your neck when you're in the middle of a field somewhere.
Is using this software easy?
Fairly the only taxing part is pairing the GPS receiver to your phone which, if you've never done it before, can be quite difficult as there are no instructions on the matter.
Ok then so how do I install this software without a pc...

Manufacturer's product description
A unique keypad arrangement, outstanding design and the world's most powerful suite of features and applications for its size set the SX1 apart from other handsets - perfect for the most demanding mobile phone consumers. Embedded discreetly underneath the screen are central navigation keys which help make the features of the SX1 even easier to navigate. Powerful as it is beautiful, the SX1 hosts the ultimate entertainment and business package. Features packed into a slender 110ccm volume frame include: built-in video player, camcorder, music player and FM radio; rich unlimited gaming supported by Series60 or Java (J2ME); full set of business applications directly comparable to a normal PDA, including local and wireless synch.
