Advantages: Design and reliable Disadvantages: Cost - and no cappuccino bits
I have the previous model of this coffee machine and it's been great. The element has finally given up the ghost, but it's lasted well, as it's had (sometimes multiple) daily use for several years - I used to work from home! The way it keeps the coffee hot without stewing it is great (the coffee goes into a very efficient vacuum flask rather than sitting on a hot plate and getting more and more chewy and full of cholesterol as the hours go on), and ... ...with satisfying steam train noises and a nice decisive "whoosh" as it finishes brewing). It takes standard filter papers and is quick and easy to load with ammo. It doesn't do espresso, heat milk or anything else other than make good filter coffee. I have the previous model of this coffee machine and it's been great. The element has finally given up the ghost, but it's lasted well, as it's had (sometimes multiple) daily use for several years - I used to work from home! The way it keeps the coffee hot without stewing it is great (the coffee goes into a very efficient vacuum flask rather than sitting on a hot plate and getting more and more chewy and full of cholesterol as the hours go on), and it's super-fast to make a big pot of coffee (together with satisfying steam train noises and a nice decisive "whoosh" as it finishes brewing). It takes standard filter papers and is quick and easy to load with ammo. It doesn't do espresso, heat milk or anything else other than make good filter coffee. You can do a full or a half pot and it's good at getting the most out of your coffee - we tended to need slightly less coffee than with other machines. The flask has a nice chunky feel to it and the water flask is surprisingly light and easy to fill. It even has a valve so if you remove the jug to pour some coffee, it stops coming through until you replace it. It's reasonably easy to keep clean, though you do need to wipe down the outside with a damp cloth once a week or so as the coffee inevitably travels a bit! All in all it's a joy to use and very reliable, and looks very stylish on the kitchen counter. Definitely recommended if you like your coffee and are willing to spend this much on a machine - think of it as 50 Starbucks coffees and it seems more reasonable!
Advantages: coffee stays tasting good Disadvantages: a bit expensive
This is not just a stylish gadget - its also brilliant.
Other than the modern stylish design the main benefit is the Thermos Jug.
It keeps you coffee warm for hours and it still tastes as good as when it was just made.
The old filter machines with the hot plate at the bottom used to keep the coffee warmish but it used to loose flavour fairly quickly and get that tired ,slightly burnt flavour.
Also the glass jugs were difficult to pour from.
