I have had Sight Training for about a month now and I still haven't got fed up of playing with it every day. I am certainly doing better with the tests these days but whether that is because I am getting used to them or whether my eyesight really is improving I wouldn't like to comment. At the end of each days 'training' there is a nice little relaxation exercise if you wish to do it.
Having recently bought a Nintendo DS and enjoyed the Brain Training I was intrigued when I saw the new Sight Training for DS on sale in my local supermarket. Ever curious (and being keen to retain as many of my faculties as possible) I decided to buy it and see what it offered.
Intially this product seemed quite similar in format to the Brain Training package I already had however I was pleased to see that it didn't have the rather irritating Dr Kawashima but seemed to offer something slightly more serious. The aim of the package is to offer the opportunity to train your 'vision' and alongside that there is the facility to test your eyesight and work out your 'Eye Age'.
Rather interestingly the tests you get to perform are actually based on your 'Eye Age' so it is suggested that you check this something like three times a week - the best eye age you can achieve is 20 but I am quite happy to be performing somewhere around the high 20s to low 30s as that is considerably better than my real age!
So what are the test like and do they really improve your vision? Each day you are set a series of daily training tasks based on your eye age. These are presented to you so you can't just pick the ones you like and ignore the ones you don't enjoy which I think is a useful discipline and it does stop you getting bored as they do change each day. Some days you might be asked to 'Challenge your weaknesses' otehr days you might be working on your strengths and some days you get to do 'sports' related exercises using simulated sports tests.
Sports Training ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I actually find all of these exercises are fun, some are quite taxing but nevertheless a challenge and as you work your way through the various exercises you get given the option to take either the 'hard' version or the 'normal' version. The sports tests are quite fun and personally I especially like the table tennis as the sounds are very realistic and you can hear when your opponent has put spin on the ball in much the same way as you can in a real game. Rather surprisingly I am even enjoying the football where you get to pass to your team and shoot at goal. Boxing is a challenge where you use the stylus to tap the training mitt and dodge your opponent and even American football and Basketball have managed to hold my attention. I am far less skilled at Volleyball and Baseball but with practice I find my scores are improving!
Core Training ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Moving away from the sports tests there is quite a wide range of 'core training' - tests like 'box track' where you have to follow three boxes as they move around the screen and say which one contains the ball - an old fairground trick I know, but very challenging which needs concentration as well as visual dexterity. I love 'number flash' where a series of numbers are flashed briefly on the screen which you then have to recreate using a keypad but I find 'box tap' where you use the stylus to tap moving boxes a little tedious (probably because I don't do very well with that one!)
'Middle match' requires you to match a symbol in the centre of the screen with one on a number of symbols surrounding it - as the symbols only briefly flash on to the screen you have to be quick to do this one much the same as you do with 'symbol order' where you have to remember the order of three symbols briefly flashed before you. One intriguing little test is 'number tap' where the numbers 1 to 25 appear in random order in a grid on the screen and you have to tap them in order - sounds simple? - yes well it would be if some of them weren't back to front and upside down! Great fun once you get into it.
What do I think? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have had Sight Training for about a month now and I still haven't got fed up of playing with it every day. I am certainly doing better with the tests these days but whether that is because I am getting used to them or whether my eyesight really is improving I wouldn't like to comment. At the end of each days 'training' there is a nice little relaxation exercise if you wish to do it.
Would I recommend it? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yes I would if you have the Brain Training and want something a little different. I reserve judgement whether it actually improves your sight but I do think it helps things like peripheral vision and hand eye co-ordination. It is however fun to do and does while away the time on a boring train journey so is perhaps worth a look for that alone.
Advantages: a good cheap game to play! Disadvantages: Each days training is a ltitle short.
...saw a new game called Sight Training, with the same kind of packaging and design, I really wanted it. The game isn't by Dr Kawashima but has very very similar packaging as to make it look as though it is, whether it is made by the same company but not endorsed by the same "Dr Kawashima" I don't know, but it is much like the original Brain Training game in the way the packaging looks, and even the way the game is set out and played. PRICE:

The game is made to strengthen your sight by giving it challanges and tests and teaching you how to excercise them to keep them fit and healthy as you do with the rest of your body. The game gives you a range of games to play and puzzles to complete to test your eyesight and make it strong. I don't suppose the game says anything about stopping you needing glasses or keeping your sight at 20/20 ...

Advantages: Great Fun Disadvantages: Can make you tired
Sight training is another one of those great products by nintendo, this game is ideal for all ages and gender. The game follows other games in the series like brain training where you play games to make your brain stronger. So this game focus's on your eyes and co-ordination and by playing different games you can test you eye speed.
Within the game there is several different aspects of Focus ablity which you can train on a daily basis and try and ... ...a stamp. If you play sight training on a daily basis more games/activities become available for you to do.
There are many different activities and games to keep you going and i have had this game 5 weeks and am still enjoying it.
Can you play if you where glasses?
Yes, my mother-in-law wears glasses and doesn't have a problem with using this game. She seems to do as good as me without glasses so i don't think there is any difference.

Sight Training for the Nintendo DS is aimed at improving your eye sight. The game comes after the release of Nintendo's Brain Training games and has been based on the fact that we only use 50% of our eyes potential - not a lot. The game is of a similar style to the Brain Training games.
The game is designed so that players complete a series of training exercise which will in turn improve their eye sight. The game was created under the supervision ... ...visual training for athletes. So how does the game work?
The game works in several ways and uses hand-eye coordinator, peripheral vision, eye movement, momentary vision (processing a lot of information at once) and dynamic visual acuity (being able to see moving objects clearly). Completing the exercises regularly will improve your eye sight. After each training session, your results are recorded and stamp issued for that day in a calendar. This ...

Strengthens 5 aspects of the focus ability through simple and short training exercises. Endorsed by the famous Japanese "Visual Training" professor Ishigaki Hisao. All operations are activated via simple touches so anyone can train there focus ability.
My View
To follow brain training we can now train our eyes. The jury is out on whether this can improve your eyesight but I'm a believer ... ...just be of some help, training any part of your body improves it so why not your eyes. Nintendo claims it develops your focus ability, eg how you see moving objects, your peripheral vision and hand-eye co-ordination. There are various games and exercises with more to be unlocked along the way. You perform a short set of exercises each day and your progress is tracked within graphs and the usual calendar stamp. There is an Eye Age Test which shows ...

Advantages: get to practice tapping your DS pricisely & fast Disadvantages: Repetitive activities.
I bought this as I like visual related puzzels and skill games. However I feel this was quite placid in terms of 'skill enhancing', sure it has random possibly usefull on another planet or to another bored person eye trivia...but no puzzles.
Somewhat average in method and 'fun'. It paces you through a series of basic 'eye workouts' and everyday you accumulate a 'stamp of achievment', which means you are able to unlock other 'secret acitivites'...yes.. ... ...as brain train, obviously not as taxing. So in that light perhaps 'brain' is better? ...I found the exercises to be repetitive, in either category you chose (the unlockables just vary on theme slightly) & not totally convinced it could calculate your eye age with a few 'the same 5' tests, which will age particularly if your having a tiresome day..this almost tests your concentration more than eye activity. But I suppose that is an effective skill ...

Advantages: Keeps you occupied and trains your brain. Disadvantages: Addictive germbuster.
Following my purchase of a NintendoDS, it has been necessary to buy as many brain age training games as possible (who said I had an addictive personality?) Actually I had the brain training before the DS but as I couldn`t play on it 24/7 as it was my sons, I needed to buy the DS. That is just a slight hint of how easy it is to lose sight of reality and play on it for a disproportionate amount of time.
OK so More Brain Training for the NintendoDS. It is the one on from the orignal Brain Training by Dr Kawashima. For the uninitiated, it is a way of using brain training puzzles to test your brain age. You can test it every day, only once. It only saves the score for that day, not the best. You can do it more than once but it won`t save your brain age again. This is certainly an incentive to do better (try) each day. When you ...
