Advantages: Good performance. Great fun. Good value. Disadvantages: Limited uses. Canon owners should consider Canon's version.
's abilities and shortcomings are rewarded in better results.
In my experience, shooting with a Canon EOS 5D full-frame DSLR camera, I have found it essential to shoot ONLY in RAW mode in order to retain the utmost quality in the original file. After initial processing in Adobe Camera Raw or Lightroom WITHOUT applying any sharpening, I then convert the RAW to a 16 bit TIF file and carryout sharpening using either USM (Unsharp Mask), Smart Sharpen or High Pass filter, depending on subject matter. Occasionally, a combination of High Pass Filter and USM may be required to attain the very best of the lens's capabilities. Since purchasing my Sigmalens, I have had the opportunity to compare the Canon 15mmf/2.8 and in my opinion, the Canon lens is marginally better.

-size reproduction, this lens doesn't! Although both the previous and latest models of this lens focus to a highly respectable 100cm (1 metre), this does not provide 1 to 1 life-size reproduction, merely 1 to 3.5 at 200mm focal length. I do wish all manufacturers would be a little more 'honest' in their description of their product's specifications?
This lens has a large maximum aperture of f/2.8 which remains consistent throughout the zoom range and is fully compatible with the SigmaEX 1.4x or 2x APO Tele Converters, both of which maintain full AF (auto focus) facilities. The lens features Sigma's HSM (Hypersonic Motor) AF and is fast, accurate and very quiet.

Manufacturer's product description
This autofocus circular fisheye lens has an angle of view of 180 degrees in all directions. It is exclusively designed for digital SLR cameras with the APS-C size image sensor. When used in conjunction with digital SLRs with APS-C size image sensors, it produces circular image within the frame. The F2.8 large aperture value produces a bright image in the viewfinder and allows photographers to take pictures in low light conditions, making it an ideal lens for Astrophotography and Aurora photography. Due to the quantifiable angle/area relationship it produces, this lens can be used for scientific and arts applications such as solid angle measurements of cloud distribution over the sky or vegetation distribution of the forest. The minimum focusing distance of 13.5cm/5.3inch and maximum magnification of 1:6 make it particularly useful for close-up photography. SLD Special Low Dispersion glass provides effective compensation of chromatic aberration. Sigma's Super Multi-Layer Coating minimizes flare and ghosting. It is equipped with an inner focusing system that creates high definition and good image quality over the whole frame. The HSM Hyper Sonic Motor ensures fast and quiet autofocusing and allows full-time manual focus override by rotation of the focus ring.
