Super Sigma

Advantages: Image quality. Consistent aperture. Internal zoom/focusing. Build. Great with converter.
Disadvantages: Needs a large (tall?) outfit bag. Quite heavy. Quite large.

.6 and EXCELLENT by the time you stop down to f/8. It stays this way until diffraction sets in (to be expected) at the two smallest apertures. This is perfectly normal however and the lens delivers quite amazing performance at this or indeed, any price level. I have used (and tested) this lens with my SIGMA EX APO 1.4x converter and can vouch for the performance being virtually just as good with only the two smallest apertures being POOR. The rest of the range is great and is particularly so when used on APS-C sized sensor cameras where only the central 'sweet spot' of the image circle is utilised. A truly great lens. Get Converted! Sigma EX 1.4x APO Converter

Advantages: Hugely versatile. Compact. Light. Inexpensive. High quality.
Disadvantages: None!

Converters often get bad press. Perhaps they deserved it about 20 years ago but modern ones are really much better than those early models. The Sigma EX 1.4x APO Converter is an excellent and extremely versatile little accessory capable of extending the range and usefulness of many lenses and in my opinion, a valuable and essential addition to the kit bag. It is of EX designation which in Sigma terminology means 'Excellence' and indicates that it is considered to be within the top quality professional range of Sigma lens products. It has the familiar smooth black 'crinkle' finished associated with the EX range and both looks and feels very good quality. It is extremely compact and will take up very little room in the outfit bag. It would be churlish to leave it at home! I purchased my example over a year ago and it is now ...

Review of Sigma EX converter

Macro shooting, Sigma style-ee

Advantages: Good build quality and good value for money .
Disadvantages: Sigma`s claims not met and a slow auto focus .

Owners and uses of DSLR cameras will know that there are dozens of different lenses that can be attached to the cameras to enable different types of photography to be done correctly. The original or kit lenses that come with most DSLR`s are capable of doing a bit of everything but only at low levels, if you want to take certain images, get long zoom possibilities or shoot creatively then you need to get the right lens for the right job. One favourite with a lot of DSLR users is Macro photography which is basically shooting close ups of things, the average camera lens will only focus properly at a minimum distance of around 59cm whereas a macro lens will let you get in much closer. This particular lens (Sigma EX macro lens - 50 mm F/2.8) allows you to focus on objects as close in as 20cm. Sigma make many other claims about ...
