Silver Spoon has to be one of my trusted brands when it comes to baking. We can have so much more fun our kitchens nowadays, lots of funky new product to try and this fun food item is fabulous! Baking over the years now has started to become a trend and one trend I’m happy to support. Some of my best memories are to do with baking with my Nanny Joy who is now sadly passed, but my fun memories is what keeps her still with me.
_Smooth and creamy, made with real cocoa butter, perfect for decorating cakes and desserts. Easy to melt and create a tasty strawberry flavour cake covering. No artificial colours or flavours Suitable for vegetarians Strawberry flavour cocoa butter confectionery for decoration_
My mom is a cake decorator and florist and over the years I have picked up a few tricks, going back a couple of years when cupcakes took to the spot light, more and more fun decorative baking related items hit our shelves. Now coloured chocolate for me wasn’t a surprised as mom used to make her own, me personally I want the faster ready made option.
You can now get all different coloured chocolate not just by Silver Spoon but by other brands too. I really think this is great if you’re having a baking day at home or a cooking day with the kids these colourful chocolates really make a different. Plus for me I have never been a fan of icing so using chocolate for topping on a cake is my idea of heaven!
You can use these chocolates in a few ways –
Sticking randomly over a cake for decoration
Melting the chocolate down and using it as a topping over a cupcake or larger cake
Melting and mixing with icing sugar to make it the creamy middle filling of a cake
You can really just make it up as you go really it just makes baking a little different and even more fun! These ones from Silver Spoon are also flavoured; the first time I purchased these was from a place called Bargain Madness for only 20p as they were selling them off. I only got the one pack at first because when things are flavoured than can sometimes take an artificial taste which I really don’t like.Using these for the first time we used half the bag melt to top some cupcakes, we also added some edible glitter just to set them off a little more. To melt the chocolate was nice and easy just place a heat-proof bowl over saucepan of hot water then stir until melted. You can also melt this chocolate in the microwave, me personally I never use the microwave for chocolate just that one second to long and your chocolate is ruined.
It didn’t take the chocolate long to smelt, I left it to just cool slightly before adding to the cupcakes. The pinkish colour of these chocolate didn’t fade and kept there colour while melting. Once I had smoothed it over I left to re-set. I found the chocolate doesn’t go back as hard as it was. However you can certainly tell it sets.
Now tasting these chocolate while still in whole form, I was surprised of just how tasty they were. It was like white chocolate with hint of strawberry and I’m a massive white chocolate and strawberry fan! When melting and using as a topper on a cake there was no difference in taste either, just as sweet and morish as ever.
I have also used this as part of a cake filling as my friend doesn’t like butter cream (shocking I know!) I melted this down left to cool added a small amount of double cream and icing sugar and mixed away. This gave me a gorgeous rich strawberry chocolate filling. Even-though I added other ingredients to this the taste of the chocolate still came through.
Personally I think these little chocolates are very versatile for baking and I have so much fun coming up with different ways in which to use them. If you’re a keen baking fan and not tried these before I would recommend you give them a go and the kids will also love them!
Silver Spoon I find pretty much keeps it packaging fun but not over the top, and also keep to the same labeling. Nothing wrong with this as it is a company you know what to expect, once your packet is empty it is fully recyclable.
Price and Availability:
First time I purchased these only cost me 20p as Bargain Madness was selling them off. However I normally get mine from Asda or online now. Price costing around the 99p, which I think is excellent value for money.

Now from looking at the values within the chocolate I guess you’re thinking ‘blimey that’s high!’ But when you break it down as one bag will easily top 10/14 cupcakes depending on the size or one 7/8inch cake on the hold isn’t all that bad.
As you can tell from my review I just love these, they add a sweet touch to a baking project, versatile to use and best of all a little different. I hope you give them a try as I think for people that enjoy baking will really find these beauties fun.
