When I didn't have a baby I never gave a second thought to pushchairs. I'd see them in the street and not look twice but now I find myself having 'push chair envy'. When I had my baby I suddenly realised that there was a world out there which requires me to learn a lot very quickly and this included the importance of the right pushchair! Silvercross
Silvercross was a name I had heard of. According to my mother they were seen as the best pushchairs when I was a baby but they were always very expensive. They have been making prams and pushchairs since 1877 by William Wilson who was a postman in Leeds. Their saying is "There is no secret to making the world's finest prams- just take 130 years of experience and add the finest materials; the rest is easy".
Since Silvercross was used as a pram for royalty- George VI and Queen Elizabeth it certainly shot up in popularity and since then the name has grown and become a very well known push chair brand.
Why did I choose this?
When looking at just how proud they are and their motto it mkaes them come across as very professional and reliable and so when I was looking at the pushchairs I couldn't help but feel like I would be someone special if I bought into the name!
I chose this particular model- The silvercross pop- as it was within my price range, lighter than the others on display and looked very easy to fold which was an essential considering just how pathetically girlie I am! It was also suitable for babies from 4 months old whereas the others were suitable from 6 months.

This pushchair is available in different colours too. The one I have is black with grey circles. There are pink and grey versions available too.
Comfort
This pushchair looks very comfortable. Some of the ones I looked at were very narrow and so didn't have much of a seat for the baby so I couldn't see them being very comfy at all. This one has a nice amount of padding, not too much so they overheat but just enough to make them comfortable. My baby sits comfortably in this pushchair and has some nice long naps in it so it's a sign that it must be very comfortable if she can sleep so well!
The straps are comfortable too. They don't rub on her and they are easy to adjust so that when they do get quite tight it's easy to make them longer.
The front of the seat, where a baby's feet would sit or a toddlers knees, is adjustable so you can have it upright so their feet would stick out or down do their feet could curl over the ends. This is really good as it makes it that bit more practical and suitable for a longer time.
fold-a-bility
I find this very easy to fold. I thought I may struggle as I'm hopeless when it comes to practical things but this is very easy to do. There is a lever which you simply unclip from both sides and then pull up another lever and then with your weight you force the pushchair forwards which then makes it all fold up on itself. Once folded it is then rather compact, as you can see by the specifications above. There is then a carrying handle so you can easily transport it to your car... supposedly. This carrying handle is absoloutely pointless as it makes it twice as heavy as it's putting the weight in an unnatural position and the handle very often snaps off sending the pushchair crashing to the floor! It's a completely hopeless design!
Steering
The height of these handles are quite high and unadjustable. I would really like them to have an ability to be moved up and down so I can make it as comfortable as possible. The shape of them though are very comfortable, they fit nicely in my hands and don't cause any aches or anything so they're obviously very well designed. The wheels are small which makes it quite a bumpy ride! I can definitely tell the difference between these tiny wheels and the large ones of my travel system which was much more smooth. It's very easy to steer though and navigate around shops and what not so I think it's pretty good!
Extras
The brake on this pushchair is rather hopeless. The front wheels have separate brakes which work very well but the back brakes are hopeless and I really think that this batch of pushchairs should be recalled as the brake is just so unreliable. Luckily I don't rely on the brake very much but if I was to go on the bus I would have to stay holding onto the pushchair all the time as the brake just doesn't work. Despite it being on you can still push it and the wheels still go round- how is this possible??The raincover which comes with the pushchair was rather hard to work out at first ! It didn't come with any instructions, however, once I figured out which way round it was to go it has been fine. It has lots of random bits of velcro everywhere which I'm not sure where they're meant to go but it keeps my baby dry anyway and maybe one day I will find out what the velcro is for!
There is a hood which you fold out to help protect your baby from the sun. This is very good as pulls out quite far and has a little window in it so you can look down and see the top of your baby's head. ONe thing about this though is that it clips onto the pushchair's body and I wasn't aware of this and once whilst collapsing it the hood snapped off on one side so when I put it back up again it looked very cock-eyed. I then realised what had happened and since then it has happened several times. I have no idea why this even clips off in the first place, again it seems like a design flaw.
The pushchair comes with a cup/bottle holder which slots on to the back which is useful but again, like the hood, this often snaps off and is left in the boot of the car!
The shopping basket is not easy to get to, especially if your baby is lying down! I tend not to use it really. It doesn't hold a great deal but it is useful to have if you need to put your small amount of shopping somewher eand free up your hands!
Cleaning
I find that because this pushchair is black it shows up all the crumbs and things so I clean it regularly. I mainly just dust it down but often get the hoover on it as it's got so many folds and things it can be difficult to get all the crumbs out. I've also used a wet sponge on it and dried it off and it's been fine. It looks okay despite being used every day for the last 4 months.
Opinion
In my opinion it seems to do the job- it steers well, my baby is comfortable and the folding mechanism is easy. It is, however, a let down when you think about how proud silvercross are of their name. It comes across as being quite a tacky product with it's various parts snapping off and having so many silly design faults like the brake that comes off and the random bits of extras which don't seem to fit!
Oh and when it lies flat it is still pretty long and so doesn't actually fit in the boot of my car and has to go on the back seat sticking up! It would be good if it was more compact.
I paid £105 for this although it's come down in price now and is £95 online. I don't know how long it will last, I'd like to think a good year or two but it does seem so tacky, every time I fold it down I feel like i'm breaking it! So for that reason I can't work out if it' svalue for money or not really. I'd have to compare it to something similar but a different name and then decide.
Would I recommend this
I'm really not too sure. I think you could probably get somethig similar but for less or you could spend more and get one which is less tacky and more reliable. If I was to buy another pushchair I would probably spend that little bit more to get a better one.
Advantages: folds easily, comfortable Disadvantages: brake is not the best, rain cover also not too great
...had always been told that Silver Cross is a name that you can trust and that it is reliable and the best on the market. My parents recalled a time when you were 'someone' if you had Silver Cross, however the market is much more competitive now with the likes of Maclaren and Mamas and Papas having some really decent push chairs too. I didn't really know where to start looking, all I knew was that I wanted something that was simple to use, much lighter ... ...had heard good reviews about Silver Cross I decided to have a look at them in particular and came across this one- The Silver Cross Pop.
It appealed to me because it was so much lighter than my previous one. The word 'pop' is used as it's name as it's meant to make life easy if you just want to pop to the shops or to pop your baby into it without fiddling around with complicated straps then this is supposedly the push chair for you.
It is suitable ...

...We settled on this Silver Cross Pop for a number of reasons. We liked the fact that it is light weight so it is easy to get up and down our front steps and to lift into the car. So many pushchairs are really heavy and cumbersome but not this one. It collapses with ease and then nice and compact so easy to store.
It's easy to collapse by just pulling up a lever and then forcing it forward which makes it double up on itself and collapse. This is really ... ...whilst holding the baby- although not recommended obviously!
The straps are really good as they lengthen easily which is always a bonus! It's frustrating when you h ave to fiddle around and pull at the straps whilst your baby looks at you like you're mad! With this one it's really simple to do!
It comes with a mosquito hood that you pull over to protect your baby from the sun. This is great because I cannot stand using parasols as every time you ...
