SimTower is one of the older titles produced by Maxis. The idea is to take your initial budget, and start building a skyscraper. You have to build wisely so that your units will sell or rent out, depending on type, in order to generate more income for you to build more onto the tower. You can have offices, shops, restaurants, cinemas, hotels, and even flats in your mix. Fires break out, you get bomb threats, and if you are not careful you can become horribly infested with cockroaches. It can be a rather absorbing game.
That said, I need to point out that as this is an older title, the graphics are rather old fashioned. The elevators zip up and down too fast, people move jerkily and in a repetitive manner. I also recommend saving very often as the game has a tendency to shut down quite suddenly and unexpectedly just as you really get going. I would love to see Maxis update this game just as they have SimCity. It is a good game with great potential let down only by its age imposed limitations.
Once you get a handle on which icons in the little side window build what, it is merely a matter of selecting where and how many you wish to place in your skyscraper limited only by money. Do a great job and when you reach 100 floors with an appropriate star rating, you get a cathedral complete with a wedding. This game is suitable for children aged 7 and above, including children over 30.It is currently available for purchase on venues such as Ebay for about £5, on Amazon.com as part of a package for about £15, and can occasionaly be found on those bargain bin cd rom sections in electronic and computer shops for £4.99 to £10.
