As my title and star rating suggest - I think that this game is rather good. Influenced heavily by Grand Theft Auto 3 on the PS2, Simpsons H & R is a free roaming, car jacking, street racing, ass kicking cracker of a game. The action is viewed in 3rd person and the graphics are very sweet - it's just how a virtual springfield should look! It's great to wander around exploring the beautifully rendered town - all of the Simpsons characters and landmarks are in there and plenty of "in jokes too".

Control

The controls are easy to pick up on the training mission and the camera is pretty good. The handling of the cars is particularly spot on - most of the cars are great fun to drive.

Gameplay

It's cool to be able to steal cars and run people over. You can even walk up to people (like Millhouse) and kick them about. The punishment for this is that there is a wanted meter - when it gets full you end up with a police chase which is also good fun unfortunately though Cheif Wiggum isn't to difficult to out wit (to many donuts!!). The gameplay is mission based, and my only criticism is that missions are not varied enough. Most of which entail getting from A to B quickly, having a race or collecting items against a time limit. Although most missions are fun they can get a bit repetitive. Some platform jumping sections can also be a bit frustrating.

This shouldn't put you off though as there is pure Simpsons humour throughout.

Depth

There's plenty to do. Each character has different costumes to collect, there are other extras although I've not really gone into them yet - too busy beating people up!! Various cars are unlockable as you progress to new cities which helps to keep it fun.

Presentation

Humour all the way from the title screen and loads of charm. The graphics are smooth and crisp - comparible to the halloween edition of the Simpsons when Homer went into 3D. The 60 F/S frame rate also never faulters. The sound is fine with typical Simpsons tunes - you know what to expect! The voice acting is also fantastic.

Overall

If you are a Simpsons fan like me this is a must. Even if you hate the Simpsons but love gaming the gamplay here speaks for itself. A very very good game.

i have to say i had a Simpsons game on my old Amiga years and years ago, and they've been consistently rubbish since! although this one did make a nice change, theres not that much the Simpsons can do in terms of gaming is there?...J
