I must admit I'm becoming a bit addicted to singing games and even though it was not really my era I do love going retro every now and again and this game has a great number of hits from the eighties that pretty much everyone will have heard of.

For those new to this format of game the objective is to sing along and match the tone and length of the notes being sung, the closer the match the higher the score you achieve. Within the game there is a single player and also a party mode which is my preferred option as it involved getting a few friends over, opening the odd bottle or six of wine and having a fun time. Within party mode there are a few options such as Pass the Mic and also battle mode where two people go up against each other singing the same song, the only disappointing version in this is a sort of retro tennis game a bit like pong where you voice moves the paddle but I found this uninspiring and a bit boring.

It should be noted that as with all games in this series you can actually achieve a high score without getting the words right indeed all you have to do is hum along to the right length of note and pitch and you will rack up the points however this is not ideal preparation for Pop Idol and in my opinion defeats the whole point of the game.

There is a good range of songs with my personal favourites being Dolly Parton singing Nine to Five, Come on Eileen by Dexys Midnight Runners and A Little Respect by Erasure however there is a god range with songs from artists such as Alice Cooper, Duran Duran and Kate Bush to name but a few, in all there are 30 tracks to choose from however be warned the dire Vanilla Ice also makes an appearance so really there are 29 as far as I'm concerned. However for those who cannot sing at al this and a couple of other rap songs actually use a rap meter to measure success and accuracy to music and it seems like what you say does have an impact on score here, it is just a shame that actual word recognition to measure accuracy could not be included in future versions of the game to stop the cheating.

Sound quality is excellent as the game as the licence to all the original tracks and the game came with two USB mikes so it is ready to play straight away for those who do not already have them and a of curse a stand alone version for those that do. The video clips that are used are pretty good as well even if the fashion sense may have you cringing at times.

Definitely a game I would recommend but then I'm a bit biased with all of these. Currently you can get the version with microphone from Amazon for £29.99 and £16.99 without.
