I bought a playstation 2 after a family member told me how good singstar was.

I am a bit of a spontaneous buyer and whilst I was in town I saw a deal in Woolworths were you could buy a PS2 and singstar together. I text my partner telling him the deal and he text me back saying I could get one if I wanted.

Straight after buying it I went home and within half an hour I was playing!

Singstar is a singing game in where you can play on your own or with other people.

In total there are 30 songs to choose from and four different game modes.

You can have up to two teams of six players.

********************GAME MODES******************

Once you are ready to play, you will see on the menu screen that there are four game modes to choose from. These are:

*Quick game
This is were you simply pick a sing and sing to it. You can choose between easy, medium and hard and your total is scored as you sing.

*Party Games
This is were you can play "Best of three" and "Pass the mic".

In best of three mode you select three songs and sing them, then your oponent will sing the same three songs and your scores will determine the winner. When you choose your songs you can choose between a short version or the original version.

If you choose to play pass the mic then you can play one on one, duets and battle each other. As you are singing the screen will tell you which team member should be singing and it will tell you when to change player sat an appropriate time throughout the song.

*Career mode
This is where you get the chance to build yourself a singing career. You start off singing one song on an open mic night and from there you will progress, depending on how good you are to:

Cutting a demo
Singing at regular venues
Recording a single
Singing at bigger venues
Performing at an awards night
Winning an award
Having a number one single
Going on world tour

You can choose between easy, medium and hard in this mode.

*Sing
This is were you simply choose a song and sing. There is no scoring, just you singing and enjoying yourself!

********************GAMEPLAY************​*********

Whether you are playing alone, with a friend or with a group of people, this game is fun.

If you decide to play the party games then it endless, as you can play against each other and battle other people. If you have a bit of a competative streak then this is the mode for you. Gameplay is simple. You select your song, select your number of players and follow the words on the screen!

All of the songs and videos are high quality and they look exactly how they should. They also sound exactly how they should, which can only add to the gaming experience.

As the video and song begins the words appear on the screen at the bottom and as you should be singing them the words will turn blue in colour.

If you sing in time, at the right pitch and hold the notes for long enough then bars on the screen that are ontop of the video will fill up. If you are using the blue mic then they will turn blue and if you are using the red mic then they will turn red. The better you sing the more the bars will fill up and the more points you will get.

As you are singing you can view your score as you go along, as it is always in the top left hand corner. You will also notice that as you sing if you do really well, gold stars will appear at the end of the bars you are filling up. They will also have a value underneath them and this is how many pints you earnt from that section.

The words and bars appear on all songs, in what ever mode you choose, if you are playing a scoring game.

If you like a game that throws challenges at you then career mode is for you. When I bought this game I went straight to career mode and played it for ages.

You start off in a simple appartment with a personal organiser and a mobile phone. You have one message on your phone and it is an invite to an open mic night at the Orange Club. This is where it all begins.

If you successfully manage to sing the song you will recieve a text message when you return to your appartment asking you to go back and sing there again. When you do, a challenge will be set.

A challenge is set everytime you sing at a venue and they are normally along the lines of: Sing 1 song and score over 5000 to get 1500 bonus buzz points or sing 2 songs and score over 8000 for an extra 2000 bonus buzz points.

The more buzz you create, the quicker you will become a star, so meeting the challenges is quite important, if you want to progress at a good rate.

As you progress more venues will become available and with each venue comes a set song list. Usually there are six songs to choose from at each venue.

This is were things can get a little tricky. Some of the songs may be your favourites and some of them you may hate! If you always choose the same song, when you sing at that venue, it will become unavailable and you will be given no choice but to sing something else, so you must be prepared to sing something you don't like or really are no good at!

Your mobile phone and your organiser can only be viewed from your appartment and they will keep track of your scores, buzz points, songs you have sung and contacts.

You have successfully completed the game when you go on a World Tour.

Just like in any of the modes, you can choose to play career mode on easy, medium or hard. Obviously, the harder the setting the better you have to sing to win.

********************MY OPINION********************

Playing this game is simple, fun and a good all rounder. I have enjoyed playing this game on my own and with the kids. I have also recently organised a gorly night were we are going to have drink and then play!

If you don't mind making a bit of a fool of yourself in front of others and you like singing, then this is something you would enjoy.

The song selection is good.

In total there are 30 songs. I am not going to list them as they are stated on the packaging, but there is a good selection with some oldies thrown.

I am pleased that I bought this game and I believe it is good value for money.

I would just like to say that the microphones that are supplied with this game are of good quality. They are heavy and sturdy and come with a long cable, which is also sturdy and thick.

I beleive that this makes it good value for money, as buying two microphones of this quality would easily set you back a good £20 or more.

In my opinion: One of the best games I have bought in a long time!
