Enjoyable historical novel
Review of The White Company - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle by Hagar

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

...The White Company is one of Conan Doyle's historical novels. It is set in the 14th century in both southern England, France and Spain. The White Company are a band of English mercenaries and the novel details how their new commander, Sir Nigel Loring, and some new recruits travel from England to join the company in France and the adventures when they arrive. The interaction between the characters of different social standing at a time of chivalry is both interesting and enjoyable. Conan Doyle later wrote about Sir Nigel Loring in another historical novel - Sir Nigel, a prelude to The White Company.... Read review

Sherlock Holmes at its best
Review of The Hound of the Baskervilles - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle by Slam

Advantages: Good plot, unexpected outcome
Disadvantages: None

...Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are asked to investigate in the death of Sir Charles Baskerville by his friend Dr. James Mortimer. The family seems to be haunted by a huge hound, which has been the fate of many members of the Baskerville family Holmes askes Watson to investigate at the Baskerville premises at Dartmoor and report regularly to London, while he wants to stay and investigate in some other cases. Watson starts his search... This case is probably one of the best known novels by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, which features Sherlock Holmes at its best. The story is mainly written from the perspective of Dr. Watson, who investigates at Dartmoor. The suspense rises to the very end of the book. It takes all of Sherlock's grey cells to solve this mistery. This book is definitely one of the greatest classical detective stories ever.... Read review

A SUPERB READ
Review of The Complete Sherlock Holmes - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle by harryorlans

Advantages: So many different stories, all of which are excellent.
Disadvantages: Can't think of any.

...What can I say about the best books I have ever read? Sherlock Holmes is a creation of genious with an interlect we can only aspire to. The complete Sherlock Holmes consists of 52 short stories and 4 novels. Each short story is another mysterious case for the super sleuth of which not all of them are successes, adding an element of realism and even surprise to the tales. After the first twenty or so stories, Conan Doyle decided to kill of his character at the Reichenbach falls in a violent struggle with his arch enemy Proffessor Moriarty. However Holmes was soon reincarnated after a public outcry. Interested? You should be. All of the mysteries are clever and exciting and are timeless classics on any bookshelf.... Read review
