I like lots of TV shows, there are shows that I would even describe as great. But none of them can match how I feel about Six Feet Under.
It is a darkly comical drama, written by American Beauty's Alan Ball. It is set in a family-run funeral home in California, and the storylines revolve around the family's lives, and the lives of those around them.
Each episode begins with a death, each one very different. Certainly the most memorable is the one that kicks the first series, the death of Nathaniel Fisher Sr, family patriarch and owner of the funeral home. However, others include a man being sliced up by a dough-mixer and Santa falling off his motorbike.
The show's comedy is used subtly and darkly, but in an imaginative way. The show tackles death, sexuality, nature and all that which governs how we live our lives. Ball's intelligent style makes this show believable and thought-provoking. However, I would not recommend this show to you if you aren't ready for something heavy, as this show weighs like a ton of bricks.
In conclusion, this show is spectacular in its style, but isn't for the drama-phobic among you.
