Well, we all know that the programming is good, but the comments about poor installation and customer support are absolutely correct.

The Digibox crashes often and the technical support team are argumentative and lacking in basic knowledge about their receivers. To make matters worse the calls to Sky are charged at 30p per minute (that used to be the rate for writing one Ciao review!). This made me think that they deliberately make their Digiboxes unstable because they are profiting from the technical support calls.
Also do not forget the privacy implications of having your Digibox connected to Sky via the modem for one year. They have not been at all open about the information that they are collecting. They are probably making large amounts of money by selling information about what programs we watch to ad companies who want to run targeted advertising campaigns. The Digibox is ostensibly free, but in fact you are paying for it through lack of privacy and pathetic customer support, and the possibility of damage to your house by Sky’s substandard installers. I chose to go ahead with it anyway, you might do the same. But as soon as a better option for programming comes along, I am going to be very keen to turn away from Sky, a company that treats its customers like dirt.
Maybe I am being a bit hypocritical here, because really if I feel this way about Sky I should not be using their services at all, and I know some people who have refused to have a Sky system even though they would like the programs, because they can see that this would be just reinforcing Sky’s attitude. My hat goes off to them. I hope to see a day when all of the broadband Satellite and Terrestrial frequencies will be available for real internet (not canned internet by Television Companies) use, so that people can watch what they want on demand, direct from the producers, without having to go through monopolistic TV companies. We should all support this vision.
Advantages: Great picture and sound quality. Disadvantages: Slow menu operating.
...over seven years of having Sky Television, my family and I decided to change with technology and convert to the brand new Digital Television which Sky were introducing.
This was for a number of reasons. Firstly there was the fact that we were having many technical problems with our old analogue set up, which included poor picture quality.
Secondly we came to the conclusion that we would eventually need to change to digital, so it may as well be ... ...offers which Sky provided, we chose a package which gave us all none subscription channels for free, also the Sports package. Also we subscribed to the complete Sky Movies package. The following is the cost of the deal:
Set top box and Dish :- FREE
Installation :- £40
All channels and sports package :- £27.00p a month
Movies package :- £5.00p a month
After having Sky Digital for around ten months now, I have found it to be very impressive. ...

Advantages: Good tv, loads of channels and a 2 day tv guide. Disadvantages: No ITV.
Sky have produced an excellent service and really led the way in digital broadcasting. Sky digital is easy to use, thanks to the cleverly laid out on screen menus and remote control. There are a number of channel packages to choose from to suit your needs. With about 190 channels and more coming all the time, and about 90 Box office channels. There is an interactive section where you can shop, send e-mail and even play games. The only negative things ...

Advantages: Picture quality, interactive services, new channels. Disadvantages: Can't get ITV/ITV2
For a £40 installation fee, Sky digital has to be one of the best buys around just at the moment. For existing Sky subscribers the monthly charges are about the same, so there really is no reason not to upgrade.
For me the main benefit as not been the new channels but the amazing increase in picture quality. I live in an area where the quality of terrestrial TV is patchy, so the perfect Sky Digital picture is a major improvement. 'Open', the interactive ... ...Box, Kiss...you can always find a good song on one of them and the sound is CD quality.
Overall, I have been delighted with Sky Digital and with the new interactive services on Sky Sports and Sky News this can only get better. You'd be mad not to upgrade. ...

Advantages: Excellent service once installed Disadvantages: Installation by subcontractors can go horribly wrong
I've had Sky Digital for about almost a year now, and I must say they are probably the best service around, excellent choice and good value.
The only snag is that installation can be a nightmare if they don't get it right.
Make sure you ring them a week ahead of the installation to confirm the date, and perhaps again the day before.
I spent 5 whole working days, waiting for appointments that weren't kept. In all of the cases there was a subcontractor ... ...it, even though they booked it themselves (I contacted them directly).
Any complaints you are asked to put in writing, and send to their correspondence unit, which doesn't seem to correspond very much (my first 2 letters were ignored, and a third got a patronising response).
Only after a letter to the Managing Director did I get some results. The whole process took years off my life.
As I said, once installed the product is great, and they know ...

Advantages: Excellent TV + radio channels Disadvantages: A lot of bureaucracy to overcome for installation
was installed there has been more competition for the remote in the household. We do not go out as often as before.
It is great to watch the current test series live from Bangladesh. I am also a fan of the various Discovery channels. In fact we hardly watch any terrestrial TV nowadays.
The excellent SkyDigital programmes made the unnecessary installation delays all worthwhile.
THE FUTURE
Sky Plus has been advertised recently. It is a decoder with a hard disc for storing programmes.
Futurologists claim that the PC and TV will merge into one eventually.
Interestingly James Murdoch, son of Rupert, became the head honcho of News International this week. I wonder how the company will perform in the future.
Thanks for reading.
