I have seen slendertone products in stores for years but didn't really know much about them. I am not overweight but have what I refer to as 'jelly' just in my lower abs area! This is the side effect of having a baby that four years on I am still left with. Having lost the excess weight some time ago it really is just the 'jelly' that is the problem and not a weight issue! The best way to tone up my abs is stomach toning exercises such as sit-ups, which I do do, but with a hectic life like mine I simply don't have the time to do enough to make a significant difference and I have got to the point where I just want to see results!!! So I looked into slendertone products and discovered that there is a wide and varied range available, some of the products are pretty expensive (£100+) and you can work on your tum, bum, arms etc. I went for the Slendertone Flex ladies belt which is just for your abs, nothing else! It cost me £69.99 and I bought a pack of replacement pads for £11.99 from Boots online. It was free delivery and as they had an advantage card offer on I got almost £10 in points too!
The belt is green with the slendertone flex logo in white on the left side and the control panel comes packaged in a seperate plastic pack to the belt. The box includes 3 x AAA batteries and the instruction manuel, there is also a quick start guide and a set of pads included. The quick start guide gives you written and pictorial instructions on how to attach the pads to the belt, how to insert the batteries and how to fit the control panel into the holder on the belt. I found the instructions very easy to follow and it took no more than 10 minutes to get started!
The instruction book is quite thick at first glance but that is because it is in many different languages, the english section is right at the front and covers pages 1-9. The features of the belt are explained adequately in the instruction book with a question and answer section but in my opinion the book is very basic and I expected a little more. However slendertone have redeemed themselves because I took a look at their website and this provided the extra information I was looking for e.g tips on how to get the most out of the belt and BMI guides. This is great for me but not much help to somebody who might not have internet access.
The belt features seven programmes; introduction, intermediate, advanced, expert, professional, comfort 1 and comfort 2. The unit automatically starts you off on the introduction level and progresses through the levels steadily. The intensity for each side is controlled seperately and goes from 0-99 on each side. The higher you set the intensity the more you can feel it! It isn't painful but on the higher settings can feel a bit uncomfortable at first. As the belt contracts you can really feel the abdominal muscles become tight, almost like your belly is been pulled in from the inside! I like it in a weird kind of way! The belt is quite comfortable to wear and stays in place very well. The display is clear and shows you how much battery power you have remaining, how much time is remaining of your session, has a smiley face to show you are progressing and a person sitting up and down to indicate muscle contracting and relaxing. It also has an indicator for the program number you are doing.
The pads last around four weeks if you are using the belt as recommended, mine are now due for changing, a triangle symbol shows up on the display when there is a problem with the pads e.g they are worn or not covering the metal studs on the inside of the belt. Slendertone recommend that you use the belt for five days per week at 30 minutes per session.
The results?
So far I have been using the slendertone belt for four weeks, they claim that you will see visible results in 4-8 weeks and lose upto 1.4 inches off your waist. I definately think that my stomach is firmer and it looks flatter, I measured my waist on the day I got the belt but I am not going to measure again until the 8 weeks is up! I am confident that I will have lost from my waist too although my main aim was to firm up my tummy. The result so far is not dramatic but I am only half way through the 8 weeks and their is an improvement in the appearence of my tummy. So hopefully after the 8 weeks is up and I switch to a maintenence regime I might have the confidence to bear my belly on the beach this year, thanks to slendertone!
Advantages: Benefits can be seen, comfy, user friendly Disadvantages: Pad replacement, cost
...good. My girlfriend puts her slendertone on of an evening when she is relaxing before bed, or whilst doing other exercise, giving this product diversity in its use, and not hindering daily activities for example so it can be worn whilst cooking for example. The display is clear and shows all the information you need, and warns when the batteries get low for example. This product uses 3 pads that 'stick' the belt to your abdomen for the signals to ... ...attached properly or are worn, you are warned of this on the display. The slendertone website offers replacements usually in a deal, for example 3 packets for the price of 2. The wrap around belt is comfortable also. More of a personal review, but definately a recommended product. ...
