I know what you're thinking. Why in the name of all that's healthily nutritious would a hunky guy, who's obviously in the peak of physical condition, be writing a review about a slim fast bar?

...writing a review about a slim fast bar?
Well I'm afraid I can't answer that. But I can tell you why a fat git like me is writing a review about it. I scored one of these from a freebie site. Why would I do that? because it was free (duh).
Yep, I like it when the price is right, and at zilcho spondulas, the price can't get any righter. But even so, was it worth it?
Oh the excitement. No sooner had Mr Postie dropped ... ...like ballerina wearing deep-sea diver's boots and scooped that (hopefully) delicious little bar of dietary goodness into my grubby little mitts.
Right...
What we have here, is a low-cal, low-carb bar having just 3.5g carbs and 92 kcals in it's 27g entirety. What's the deal with low carbs anyway? When did carbohydrates become a bad thing? Piece of bloody nonsense if you ask me...oh, you didn't ask. Fair enough.

Yep, I like it when the price is right, and at zilcho spondulas, the price can't get any righter. But even so, was it worth it?
Oh the excitement. No sooner had Mr Postie dropped one through my letterbox than I skipped down the stairs like ballerina wearing deep-sea diver's boots and scooped that (hopefully) delicious little bar of dietary goodness into my grubby little mitts.

I ordered the strawberry flavour one which comes in a lime green wrapper...obviously. I know lime green's the colour I always imagine when I think of strawberries.
It states that it's "A Strawberry soya crisp snack bar dipped in white chocolate with sugar and sweeteners, vitamins and minerals."
On opening the wrapper and having a jolly good sniff, I can't sense much aroma at all. Nothing fruity, nothing really noticeable apart from a spooky similarity to a plain digestive biscuit - a sort of grainy, wheaty sweetness. As far as it goes, a quite pleasant aroma, if practically non-existent.
I'll just nibble off a corner and see how it tast...HELP MA BOAB! it's like feckin' concrete. You could break a tooth on this thing (if'n you had any). Anyhoo, it's um...well, it doesn't taste like concrete (I'm guessing), but I'm not really sure what it tastes like. It's supposed to be strawberry flavour...hmm, straw? OK, I'll grasp at that. Berries? Not a pip. Actually, I thought I could taste a hint of banana, but I think that's the 'white-chocolate'-type covering - it's banana-coloured!
It tastes like nothing of this world. Or, to be more accurate it taste of nothing. It's rough, it's tough and it's like chewing gravel (can you chew gravel?). It's feckin' gash, man. YUK! A quick look at the ingredient list to see what sort of things you can blend together and get something so horrendously horrible and...wait, there's no way I can have a quick look - the ingredient list stretches from here to there and halfway back again. I started counting them but gave up around thirty. One thing I did notice, it says: strawberry chips (1.6%) (sugar, cranberries 0.4%). What????
No wonder I couldn't taste strawberries. Now, if I'd been looking for cranberries I'd...nah, I couldn't taste them either.
There are all sorts of warnings on this one:- • It's made in a factory that uses: peanuts, eggs, nuts, sesame seeds and celery...celery? What's the problem with that? • If you are an adolescent, pregnant or breast feeding, have a medical condition*, or want to lose more than 20% of your body weight, then see your doctor or dietician. • It contains polyols to reduce carbs. Excessive consumption may have a laxative effect. Shit, it all sounds a bit iffy to me.
* What do they define as a medical condition? terminal cancer? colour blindness?Y'know? I think this probably IS a good slimming aid. Flip knows it put me off food for a while. Although, having eaten first and read the label later, I'm not sure it's going to stay eaten. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm a greedy barstard with a constitution Corus could be proud of, I think I'd feel quite ill.
Even though this was free, I still feel ripped off.

To sum up I guess it depends on how much you want to loose weight and what you want to loose. There may be lower options out there that are also cheaper and don't cause a jaw ache! but if like me you just want a quick alternative to get you through til lunchtime without having lots of calories or ...

Advantages: Made me not want to eat... Disadvantages: Expensive!
I'm writing this op entirely on the SlimFast meal replacement bars - I'm found all the other things quite nice! I bought all the SLimFast bits and pieces - the shakes, the meal replacement bars, the snack bars, the pastas and the soups, and I set out to try them all. SlimFast sets everything out so that is very easy to follow: you need to use 500 calories a day more than you eat: a woman should be eating 1200-1400 cals, and a man should be eating ... ...calories, and has all the nutrients etc. that you need.
You are supposed to swap two of your meals in a day with meal replacements, and then have a low-fat 600 calorie meal for the other meal. They also recommend having 2 or 3 snacks of around 100 cals a time to keep your energy up - fruit, veg or snack bars are good. So, thats the basics - you can buy all the bits from any supermarket, and also from health stores like Boots and Superdrug. I found ...

“Post!!” My bloke calls from the stairs. He goes to the porch and collects the scattered envelopes and leaflets from amongst the untidy shoes and dried mud. He slings a padded envelope at me. Excitement kicks in. My free sample of the Slim-Fast Yoghurt Muesli bar had arrived! Big grin – new review…
Foil wrapped in a white packet, red sealed ends and Slim-Fast written in red above the top left corner, the words ‘Yoghurt ... ...across the centre, a photo of the edible bar, waiting inside the packet, is printed on the right hand side…. my mouth waters.
The bar, in its packet, felt heavy in my hands, bulky if you like, and I imagined this was a good sized bar to fill in for a meal but surprised at its stated weight of a mere 60g (2 grams heavier than a standard Mars bar)
The packet was easy-ish to open – well I suppose it was just very well sealed to keep in ...

Advantages: it was free Disadvantages: probably won't make you thin
I’m going to be honest with you. This is a product I would never ever have tried in a million years. The only reason I ended up trying it was because it was sent to me free. On Sunday when I had nothing better to do I was indulging in my Ciao addiction (hurrah for the internet). The “free slim-fast bar” ad kept on coming up and I kept on clicking it shut. But then as it kept on coming I could only focus on two things: Number one: it was food. Number ... ...food? Who? Not me. So I merrily signed up for some free food and then went off to see if I could get any more free food sent my way.
A few days ago my free bar arrived in the post. But first a little history. Slim-fast has been around for some time. The program promises that you will lose weight by going on its meal replacement program. Time was when this program consisted of two milkshakes a day and a balanced meal at dinner. However that was back ...

...a free sample of a Slim Fast yogurt muesli meal bar, oh well never mind it's something to eat anyway should be tasty, how wrong was I !!!
The bar is a generous 60g the ingredients I have listed below and quite frankly why on earth would you put all that stuff in your body when for 221 calories and 7g of fat you could have a healthy wholemeal tomato sandwich and be full, beats me but I think Slim Fast prays on the weak, after all if you feel the ... ...then you must be weak, the answer is eat less not buy extra products!

As part of the ongoing quest to loose some weight I have been sampling the snacks made by Slimfast. Each one of the snacks has less than 100 calories making them the ideal choice if you just need to have a nibble.
I get cravings for chocolate, (especially around *that* time of the month), and so I thought I would try this to see if it would indeed satisfy those cravings.
The Slimfast Caramel bars are like squished Mars bars. They have nougat, caramel and chocolate but they are a lot smaller, a lot thinner and somehow more dense. They taste similar to a Mars bar but a lot sweeter, (which is saying something as I find Mars Bars sweet enough), and it is a strange sweetness that hangs around for ages after eating. As I have mentioned they are very dense which makes them very chewy and claggy in your mouth, inevitably coating the top ...

Advantages: Yummy Disadvantages: veeery chewy, can get stuck in the old molars...
I live off of these.
I have such an insatiable sweet tooth I need something that I can nibble on all day without packing on the pounds and this provides that perfectly.
The squishy chewy texture means you can't gulp it down in one swoop, but can acutally savour the fake caramelly taste.
At only 90 calories (only 40 more than an apple) they are an ideal nibblet for the dieter cursed with a mouth that mistakes sugar for heroin!!!!
They're pretty good value too for a slimming aid, and I often see them on offer in Boots.
I wouldn't ever go on an 'all slimm fast' diet because that might kill my tastebuds, but for the time being I'm happy scoffing these on my breaks from work instead of a mars bar! ...

Advantages: Lower fat and calorie alternative to a Mars Bar Disadvantages: Very sweet, relatively high sugar level
I bought this bar on impulse whilst doing a small shop at Tesco. I'm currently on a 'healthy eating' kick, so thought I would give this a go as a 'choccie treat'.
The texture is quite 'squidgy', and consists of a layer of soft nougat-y substance, a layer of caramel, and then covered in chocolate. Basically, like a small Mars Bar.
The taste is also similar to a Mars Bar, and very sweet. A little bit too sweet for me, but delicious all the same. A much better taste than the 'cardboard chocolate' alternatives I have come across before!
Nutritionally, it sells itself on having just 99 calories, and the fat levels are low at 3.2g (compared to a Kitkat which is 107 cals and 5.7g of fat). However, the sugar levels seem quite high (14g compared to 11g in a Kitkat), as are the Carbohydrates (18.1g compared to 13.3g in a Kitkat).
Overall ...
