Slim Fast Bar

I'm writing this op entirely on the SlimFast meal replacement bars - I'm found all the other things quite nice!

I bought all the SLimFast bits and pieces - the shakes, the meal replacement bars, the snack bars, the pastas and the soups, and I set out to try them all.

SlimFast sets everything out so that is very easy to follow: you need to use 500 calories a day more than you eat: a woman should be eating 1200-1400 cals, and a man should be eating 1400 cals minimum. A SlimFast meal replacement is around 200-250 calories, and has all the nutrients etc. that you need.

You are supposed to swap two of your meals in a day with meal replacements, and then have a low-fat 600 calorie meal for the other meal. They also recommend having 2 or 3 snacks of around 100 cals a time to keep your energy up - fruit, veg or snack bars are good.

So, thats the basics - you can buy all the bits from any supermarket, and also from health stores like Boots and Superdrug. I found that Tesco sell larger packs of the shakes, but Boots tend to do deals e.g. 2 for 1. They also sell a slimming pack which outlines what you have to do, and gives recipes. You also have a diet diary where you can put in your weight/measurements each week and what you have eaten. They also give you a can cooler that holds one shake! My pack was £6.99 from Boots.

So, onto the meal replacment bars... I chose them because of their names: Chwey toffee, and Chocolate. There are no other choice of flavours... They are about 4 inches longs by about 1 wide, and 1/2 inch deep. Unfortunately, they are a disgusting brown colour!!

You are supposed to eat 2 as a meal replacement, so I took 2 to work to have for my breakfast (I had been having shakes up until then). I took one bite, and found it extremely chewy, plus it had a very nutty flavour (the choc one). Worst of all I found it extremely sickly. I could only eat half of one bar, and didn't manage the 2 they recommend!

The chewy toffee flavour one was exactly the same, and didn't really taste that different. I managed to eat one bar of that one, but again couldn't eat the 2.

I would recommend that if you are starting SlimFast that you do not get the meal replacement bars unless you have a very sweet tooth, and if you like nutty flavours! They are very expensive for what they are - you get 6 in a box, and they are around £3 a box.

I think I would rather go without a meal than eat them, but maybe that is what SlimFast planned!
