This is my 2nd op on different Slim Fast products, I tried their Seasoned Chicken Soup with Sweetcorn & Croutons yesterday and its NICE!

It comes in a trendy 'thin pyramid' shaped box boldly emblazoned (swallowed a dictionary this morning!) with (what else) the Slim Fast logo - you've got to give it to Slim Fast, their marketing is blatant! The actual box is great. It shows the Knorr logo on the bottom right hand corner, as this particular soup was 'Created by the chefs at Knorr'. As soon as I saw this I remembered the Knorr chicken noodle soup which used to come in a packet to add water to, I was a huge fan of this soup so am a bit biased towards Knorr anyway. The box shows the top of a bowl of chicken soup with huge pieces of chicken and dice-sized croutons that you can tell have been cooked to perfection. Now I know I'm not going to get this in my bowl of dried Slim Fast chicken soup but it looks GOOD! The box states that there are 3 complete meals and that each is a meal replacement for weight control and contains 23 vitamins and minerals plus fibre. Turn the box around and you're assaulted with writing and facts and figures. You've got all the nutritional bumph, which means nothing to me except the cals per 59.5g serving made with 250ml hot water is 217cals and the fat is 6.8g for the same amount. You're given the vitamin and mineral composition plus the % of recommended daily allowance for each of them. You've also got a brief description of how to use the Slim Fast plan - replace 2 meals with a Slim Fast meal replacement, snack on fruit between meals and then enjoy a healthy 600 cal healthy meals, details on how to order a Slim Fast Support Pack and information on how to access their on-line support (www.slimfast.co.uk). The important information states - Do not start this or any other weight loss prgramme if you are pregnant, breast feeding, on medication, under 18, or want to lose more than 20% of your body weight withour consulting a doctor and the obligatory 'Slim Fast can help slimming only as part of a calorie controlled diet, do not use it as your sole source of nutrition.'

The soup itself comes in 3 foil wrapped packets, each weighing 59.5g. The wrapper is quite an arty white design with a swirl of succulent chicken pieces and whole corn on the cob and states 'A delicious soup created from the finest ingredients. Full of the nutrition you need and foil sealed for freshness.' The back of the packed gives more detailed instructions on how to make the soup (how hard can it be???) and the Slim Fast Philosophy, but I won't bore you with this useless marketing cr... rubbish except to say the words achievement, confidence, easy and fexible and Slim Fast Plan are in bold..... ;o)

To make the soup I opened the packet (which didn't rip where it was supposed to so I ended up in a cloud of chicken smelling powder!) and poured the powder into a bowl. The powder is very fine with hard chunks mixed it and its a bright yellow colour. It actually smells really nice, like chicken crisps, and a bit tangy. You then pour 250ml of boiling water into the bowl with the powder and give a really good stir for about 30 seconds or until smooth - it took me about 1 1/2 minutes to get all the lumps stirred out. You then have to allow another few seconds for the soup to thicken when you've finished stirring. The good thing though is as soon as you add the water it starts smelling like chicken soup so you know its going to be good. When its ready to eat it goes lovely and thick and the croutons all come to the top (and theres loads of them) and it looks lovely, a nice yellow colour. And it tastes really good!!! The taste of it reminds me of Heinz chicken soup (in the tin) but this is way thicker. The soup actually tastes of chicken (which I wasn't expecting to be honest) and its quite creamy for a powder soup. Theres loads of small croutons which are still crunchy while you're eating your soup and small pieces of sweetcorn which are still a bit too hard for my liking. Theres a lovely spicy flavour to the soup, although I can't see what spices they've used in the ingredient list, which compliments the chicken perfectly. The soup doesn't taste powderey at all and is just the right consistency - not too thick but not like drinking water!

I brought this soup at Boots for £3.49 and at the moment they're on '3 for 2' so you can try one of the other flavours. I've also seen it in Kwik Save, Sainsburys and Asda for the same price or in Safeway for £3.59. I've heard you can also get it from Superdrug cheaper but I haven't seen it - worth a look though. Each soup works out to be roughly £1.13, which is expensive for one bowl of soup but worth it if you're following the Slim Fast plan and want something different to milk shake. As well as seasoned chicken you can also get the soup in Creamy Wild Mushroom, Mediterranean Tomato and Garden Vegetable.

I'll definately buy it again, its a great taste, easy to make (although it takes ages!) and a change from milk shake twice a day in winter! Its really filling and it was easy to go from dinner time to tea time without raiding the fridge - BONUS!

Thanks for readng.
