I have tried all the well know slimming clubs and diets, but i have to say Slimming world is the best I have tried.
I haven't succeeded in losing any near the amount of weight I need to, but I have lost by far the most through slimming world.
I am joining back up with them this coming week and hopefully this time will be the time I follow through with it.
The last time I stopped going was the cost, this (thankfully isn't an issue at the present time due to both myself and my husband getting better jobs).
After I stopped going to the classes I tried to follow the plan but just didn't have the willpower to do it alone. It is amazing how much difference it makes having a group of people all supporting you.
The plan itself is quite simple to follow you can choose to stick to red days or green days or a mix of both as long as you don't mix the 2 on the same day.
Red days you can eat as much lean meat, fish and poultry as you like provided it has been cooked with no added fat. On red days you limit the amount of pasta, rice and potatoes you eat.
On green days you can eat as much pasta, rice and potatoes as you wish but eat small amounts of meat, fish and poultry.
On both red and green you can eat unlimited ammounts of "free foods" such as any vegetables (except peas and sweetcorn), fruit, very low fat yoghurts (such as mullerlight) and diet drinks.
In addition you choose healthy extras these include things like wholemeal bread, cereals, small amounts of cheese and milk.
On top of all this you are allowed "sins" which are treats for the day, useful if you feel cheated not being able to eat chocolate. All foods are given a sin value and you simply look up in the book you are provided with what the sin value is for what you want. There is also a sin directory which lists thousands of foods and their values which is invaluable.
For the first 4 weeks you are asked to keep a food diary so the class leader can see you understand the plan by what you are eating.
In class everyone is weighed and your weight is recorded. When this is done the leader reads out how much everyone has lost or gained or if they have maintained their weight. Your actual weight is never revealed just your gains and losses.
After this there is usually a talk by the class leader or a guest speaker. Recipes are swapped and advice is given by other class members.
You are given awards for the amount of weight lost usually every half a stone, also they have slimmer of the week and slimmer of the month awards for the person or people who have lost the most weight in that time.
Most class leaders seem to ask people to take in a low sin or sin free item each week such as an apple and this is put into a basket for the slimmer of the week.
It costs £10 to join and £3.75 per week but they quite often they have special offers such as half price membership. Included in this you get a book that explains how the plan works and what you can eat in each section and some sin values. You can purchase recipe books and sliming world magazine at a lower price if you buy it in class.
