After having my baby girl in October of last year and then getting engaged in November I decided that I needed to shift the excess pounds that were piling on. As I have very little motivation exercise was out of the question so I had to look else were. My boyfriends mum and his sister had joined slimming world a few weeks earlier and kept telling me how much weight they were losing, I had told them I was wanting to lose weight and they suggested that I go with them and join.
My first class and weigh in
I was extremely nervous about my first class and weigh in as I hadn’t weighed myself at home for quite a while and I had a feeling that I wouldn’t like the weight that I was going to hear.
At the first class you pay a £10 joining fee and that pays for your slimming world book and the class. The book that you get holds your weekly weigh in details, gives you general information about slimming world, and holds your progress stickers (more about that later).
As I expected I didn’t like the weight that I said I was, but I told myself that I had made the right move to join slimming world and do something about it. After everyone has been weighed, we all sit around together and exchange stories about how they had done that week and share any recipe tips and cooking idea’s. There is also a tutor/talker who attends the class every week and they are there to offer advice and motivation when needed.
The different days
On the slimming world diet you have a Red day (Original day) and a Green day, I call a Red day a meat day and I call a Green day a rice and pasta day.
Red days, on a Red day you can eat as much meat as you want to but you can have only limited amounts of rice, pasta, beans, bread, dried canned and cooked fruit and cereals. Green days, when on a green day you can eat as much pasta, rice, potatoes, beans, eggs, but you can have only limited amounts of meat, fish, nuts, bread, cheese and cereals. Whichever day you are on you will be able to have Free foods on a Red day they consist of vegetables, fruit, meat and fish, on a Green day they are fruit, vegetables, rice, pasta, potatoes.
Each day you are able to have healthy extra’s on a Red day they are Beans, soup, cereal, bread these have to be measured out and you can only have 2 of these a day, on a Green day they are, Meat, cheese, bread, cereal, nuts and fish.
Every day you are aloud to have between 10 and 15 syns a day, you can carry them over to the next day or to the weekend if you like. Listed below are some examples of Syn values
Individual custard tart 11syns on both a Green and Red day 28g Special K 5.5syns on both a Red and Green day Twix twin bar 14.5syns on both a Red and a Green day Maltesers 37g bag 9syns on both a Red and Green day 25ml Tia Maria 3.5syns on both a Green and Red day 25ml Taboo 1.5syns on both a Red and a Green day Beck’s 275ml bottle 5syns on both a Red and a Green day
There are various ways in which the tutor/talker keeps us motivated to lose weight, the first on is the target sticker, once you have lost 7pounds (half a stone) you gain a ½ stone award, these go up in half stone and you get one every time you lose half a stone, there is also a chance to be the slimmer of the week and win a basket full of free food (which is why we take a piece of fruit or any free food to the lesson).
My first week
I must admit I didn’t find it as hard as I thought it would be, I think it was the novelty of it. I never felt hungry between meals as I snacked on fruit instead of biscuits, chocolate and crisps and when I was having a meal I would have big amounts of free foods on my plate along with lots of rice or meat depending on what day I was on.
As Tuesday night approached again, I got my piece of fruit, weigh in book and my £3.95 and went a long and I was amazed to find that I had lost 2 pounds, I have now been attending slimming world for 5 months and I have in total lost 19 pounds, it is definitely the best diet that I have ever been on and I would recommend it anyone wanting to lose weight.
