I re-joined slimming world in January 2006. Previous to this, I had joined once before but now I look back, I was too young to take dieting seriously but since my weight has gone up and up over the last few years I decided to re-join. I felt nervous walking back into the class but soon remembered what a friendly place it is to be and that everyone is there for the same reason.
Joining slimming world for the first week costs £10, but that includes your first weigh in, the opportunity to stay at the class and a book. Then on, its £4.25 each week unless you're a student or an O.A.P - in which case, every fifth week is free. Or you can do 'countdown' which means you can for ten weeks, only paying for nine. This is a good idea if you feel you may not want to go back if you've had a bad week, as you've paid for it so you may as well attend. Once you reach your target, and stay within 3lbs of it, you can attend each week for free. Each class runs for about an hour, but you can leave once you have been weighed if you wish. I prefer to stay to the classes to get support from other members and to hear of any new recipes people have come across. The book you are given free consists of details relating to the diet, i.e. what foods you can eat on which day (more later) and at the back there is a section in which your weight is recorded each week. At the group I attend, every one is asked to bring a piece of fruit. This is then placed in a bag and the slimmer of the week receives this along with a certificate and a silver sticker. You also get stickers each time you loose half a stone. Monthly magazines are sold at the classes, at a cheaper rate than the shops along with recipe books and syn value books. Free tea and coffee is provided and a weekly raffle is done
- a prize of a £5 Marks and Spencer's voucher. You can have four holidays from slimming world - so in other words, four weeks where if you miss a session you don't have to pay. Usually, the consultant has to have been notified of these weeks in advance.
On both days, (green and original) you can have 2 A choices and 2 B choices. All sugar free or no added sugar drinks are free, along with water, tea and coffee (but milk comes from you A choice). What you can/cannot eat and how the diet works is explained after the group meeting if you are unsure of anything. For the first few weeks, you may be asked to complete a food diary so the consultant can check you understand how the diet works and can highlight any errors you may be unaware of. I was also given my consultants phone number in case I wanted to ask her anything or just ring for some support. Some examples of the foods that can be eaten on each day - (i no its listed but theres not really any other way i could do it!) SUPERSPEED FOODS
Some foods are named super speed foods- these are the food which can help speed up your weight loss such as; _ melon, quorn pieces, strawberries etc. I believe these foods do help weight loss, as when I eat melon, the pounds seem to drop off.
LIFE LINE ONLINE
www.slimming-world.com is the official slimming world website. In order to gain full access, you need to get the password from the class each week as it changes. With access to this, you can record your weight loss each week, measure your BMI, check out syns online for almost every food and drink, pick up some great recipe ideas, check out other members success stories, record a food diary, read how exercise can help weight loss etc. the website comes in very useful when your unsure of the syn value of foods and just need to quickly check before you eat it. I also like the way you can record your weight loss on a chart, so its easy to see how the pounds are dropping off which I feel, can be a great motivation to continue. You can also log onto this website to find your nearest group.
MY FAVOURITE SLIMMING WORLD FOOD
Before re-starting the slimming world diet - I used to love chips. Now, on a green day, I can eat piles of chips!! The easiest and tastiest way to make them is ….
Preheat oven to 170 oC
Peel 2 large potatoes cut into chip shapes and place to boil in water for 6-8 mins.
Place some tinfoil on a baking tray, and cover in fry light (the one cal spray)
Drain off potatoes, leave to stand for 2-3 mins then place on baking tray and spray them with fry light.
Place in oven for 30-45 mins, frequently running.
Once chips are golden brown and crisp, remove and serve.
These chips are actually free on a green day, as they are just plain potatoes, not cooked in fat.
To add a bit of flavour, season with pepper before placing in oven. I think these chips are fab, especially when you can have them with quorn chicken and baked beans - a totally syn free meal on a green day!!
Currently, I am half a pound off loosing 2 stone. This diet really does work and although it's hard to pick up at first, once you get into it the pounds will fly off! Good luck to anyone doing the diet. Let mo know how you get on!
