Most of us at some time or other have considered dieting, and even joining a diet club, but in this aged of body beautiful where so many faddy diets claim to work miracles and the only pounds we seem to lose end up in some fat cats pocket. It is a difficult desision as to where to put ones trust.
The methods which have stood the test of time and still show us real people acheiving real results by not only losing weight BUt also keeping it off, are in my opinion the only viable choices.
In 1969 Slimming World was founded by Margaret Miles-Bramwell in direct competition to Weightwatchers, which was to all intents and purposes the main slimming club of its kind. The basis of the diet plan
in the early days was akin to the now very popular Atkins diet in as much as it promoted a high protein very low/no carbohydrate diet.
Today Slimming World has offers more of an eating plan for life as apposed to a 'quick fix' weight loss programme. The main plan has now evolved into two main approaches, The Green and the Red Days.
The Green day means that the slimmer can indulge in copious amounts of complex carbohydrate foods such as, pasta, rice, potatoes etc, while adding what are known as healthy options which are measured and weighed amounts of food essential for maintaining good health such as milk, cheese or other dairy items and also cereal and grain. ON the Green days most fruit and vegetables may be eaten without measure or weighing. However, the introduction of meats and fats is limited.
The same applies to a huge selection of nearly every other food which may be included in the daily intake but restricted to units known as syns.Ithe Green days are a carb-aholics dream and the vastamounts and variety of free foods on offer, means you should never feel hungry. There is no measuring of food in this plan
The Red days are almost the same as the green only the proteins may be consumed freely and the complex carbs limited;syns also apply on red days.
syns can be used on both the Red and the Green days meaning that no treat or favourite food have to be given up....Most people are allowed ten syns a day - for example a glass of wine is equivalent to five.
Simply put, on a green day a large plate of pasta with a small portion of meat sauce is allowed whereas on the Red day a large portion of meat sauce covers a much smaller portion of pasta. Both these eating plans come under the title of food optimising.
The main idea behind the success of Slimming world is class or groups attendance. Adults who are seven or more pounds overweight may join a local Slimming World class and pay a weekly fee to attend classes. In 2007 the cost on joining was £10 and the weekly charge £4.50. Once you hit your target weight you can continue attending the club's weekly classes for free as long as you stay within 3lbs either side of it.
At the class members are weighed and the loss or gain is shared with the group. It is believed that attending a group regularly where members can also share tips, experiences, and ask for advice and most importantly offer support to each other is the real reason for dieters achieving successful weightlosses.
From personal experience this write can vouch for the success of Slimming World's eating plans. From joining my local group and studying the diet information and applying it carefully, I managed to lose 16lbs in less than 6 weeks.
By combining the diet with a little more exercise the results have been fast and noticeable. I not only feel slimmer, but more healthy and positive that I can continue with a terrific weight loss AND eventually maintain my target weight. I can honestly say that I have not once felt hungry or deprived. I do not consider that I am on a 'diet' but rather that I am eating all the foods that i really love but being re-educated as to how to cook them in a more healthy fashion.
Apart from the help and support received at the Slimming World weekly group, the company offers a fabulous online Official site http://www.slimmingworld.com/ . Here a member can log in to his or her own page using a unique code given out each week by the group leader, and so take advantage of all the information offered such as;- weight charting, syn calculation, daily eating diary, not to mention the support and advice of the company by merely emailing for anything not found on the site.
There is also back up from the official magazine Slimming World, again with lots of advice and real life experiences of slimmers who have been successful and inspiring to others.
Besides all this there are also online forums and websites made and maintained by Slimming World devotees who have also lost weight and changed their lives and so offer to share experiences with others.
All in all anyone considering embarking on a slimming diet and who is unsure where to begin or unsure of choosing a slimming club that is value for money and above all actually works, will do well to enrol at one of the classes across the UK
