I realise that many other people have already written a review of Slimming World, but I am going to add my tuppence to the pot, and perhaps will encourage someone else out there to become a little healthier in the meantime.
I love slimming world. I've been a member for several years now, I'm not at goal yet, but in that time I've gone abroad for a year and a half to study (only put on 4 lbs in that time), got married and had a baby. My weight loss is currently at around 2 stones, and I've got at least another 2 or 3 to lose.
To put it simply, Slimming World is not a diet. It is a way of teaching yourself how to eat properly, and as a result of that, if you are not already a healthy weight, you will lose weight until you are. It teaches you to fill yourself up on normal healthy foods, such as pasta, potatoes, meat, poultry, fruit and veg, diary products, nuts, cereals, bread, to name a few.
I'm not going to go into the ins and outs of exactly how it works, because firstly, others have done it in their reviews, and secondly, its better to go to the group and have it explained to you.
You don't have to weigh and measure everything which goes in your mouth
You can eat huge quantities of food, not be hungry and lose weight consistently week on week
You get the support of your group members and consultant (I am very fortunate to have stumbled across one of the top consultants in the country, who will respond to my text messages within minutes, often by calling me back and chatting for as long as I need)
You can eat cake, chocolate, sweets, cheese, indian meals, chinese, or whatever it is which you need as a treat, provided that you count it. My Consultant Claire talks about "choice power", rather than "will power".
There is flexibility when you need it
In general, I have found that going to Slimming World has reeducated me in how to eat. Even when I go off the wagon a bit, it is not as bad as had I not been doing slimming world. If you are looking for a long term weigh loss solution to get yourself to a healthier weight, I couldn't recommend Slimming World more.

Advantages: A good healthy eating plan, which you lose weight to easily and steadily. Disadvantages: Expensive to keep buying lots of meat, fresh vegetables and fruit all the time.
