Advantages: Fast and fun while it lasts, impressive in places (though not many) and makes a great frisbee. Disadvantages: Too short by a long way. Frantic, often to the point of frustration. Not particularly new or innovative.

This means that even retro fans are sure to be disapointed with their purchase.There are some fairly nice spot effects and other eye candy, but nice visuals do not always make a good game. As a video game jounalist of over four years, I am quite used to seeing games released that totally miss the point. Silpheed: The Lost Planet is one such game. The PS2 is supposed to be a "Next Generation" console, so why is a game that is several years old being released. Developers should be pushing the system further and harder, not just throwing any old thing together to make a quick buck. For those who don't know, Silpheed is a Pseudo 3D scrolling shooter in the vein of the classic R-type. Ok, no bad thing you might think, but at a time when gamers are asking more and more of their games, this game can be completed in less than a day. This means that even retro fans are sure to be disapointed with their purchase.There are some fairly nice spot effects and other eye candy, but nice visuals do not always make a good game. There are more deserving, rewarding and enjoyable games available for you to spend your hard earned money on, so i wouls suggest you do just that.
Advantages: A bit like Axelay/Super Aleste from the Snes days Disadvantages: Its ten years later and should look better.
I happened across it in the bargain bucket in Woolworths and said a tenner for a PS2 game cant be bad, but I was wrong!
I took it home and put the disc in and was greeted with visuals that would not have looked out of place on a Playstation 1 rather than a PS2. The gameplay was okay for a couple of shots but the lack of a real continue or save feature hampers you and after a couple of shots you feel like flinging it out the window rather than going ... ...The bizarre concept I couldnt get over is the ability to save all your settings to the memory card yet you cant save your game progress to the memory card.
The visuals within the game are poor but even more so is the collision detection during cut scenes where the game just looks like it is an initial beta copy rather than a fully fledged game. ...
