Advantages Over the top gore, incredibly graphic detail,
Disadvantages the plot is inconceivable
One female slug can lay one and a half million eggs a year – a fact which holds terrifying consequences for the people of Merton. As the town basks in the summer heat, a new breed of slug is growing and multiplying. In the waist-high grass, in the dank, dark cellars they are acquiring new tastes, new cravings. For blood. For flesh.
HUMAN FLESH…
Like a black wave they destroy every living thing in their path without discrimination.
This was the first Shaun Hutson book I read and I though it was brilliant. Before that I had been reading Stephen King books and I found them quite tame. It was a few years ago but I thought the book was great. It was ridiculous and had totally over the top gore and violence. This story is very gritty from the outset. The plot's not up to much but the amount of violence kind of makes up for it anway. Particularly people dying while either on the toilet or copulating which I thought quite funny but it wont appeal to the weak stomached. I'd recomend it to anyone who appreciates cheesy horror or over the top violence. Not for people who don't like creepy crawlies this book is like a slimey more grusome version of arachnophobia.
I've sinced realised that most of his other books are far better but I still enjoyed it and read Breeding Ground which was far worse (lots more people dying on the toilet or doing the wild thing). It's got that dodgy 60's B movie feel to it which I like.
