. FUTON? How 1970s, or was it '80s? I can never remember. Anyway I thought they were well out of fashion, perhaps they are making a comeback. If you are like me, you will think that futons are nothing more than old pallets thrown on the floor, covered with your Granny's old eiderdown, it is time we looked at some modern info. To futon or not to futon...

Advantages: dual use, easy to store, easy to use
Disadvantages: mattress is hard to sit on and heavy to move

Available in a wide range of trendy styles the futon is definitely a state of the art fashion accessory to any household, although I would say that, I own one. You can choose from various frame styles with wood or metal being the two main components and then also mix'n'match with further choices in the mattress range. They come with complete instructions on how to put them together, however, do not underestimate the weight of the mattress! yay how heavy is that!! nice idea to think you can whip it off to clean in the crevices and turn it over in a flash - forget it, just stick the hoover nossle in. Although the mattress is the part that mainly fits in with your decor as the colours they are available in are endless, I find to sit on, without a doubt give it half an hour you too will suffer with 'numb bum syndrome'. Cheap and comfy

Advantages: Versatile and within most budgets
Disadvantages: Possibly unsuitable for some as they are low to the ground

When I moved into my most recent student house the beds left something to be desired. The mattresses were all encased in plastic, and it wasn’t the type of cover you could remove. I admit this saved the landlord money in the long run as he didn’t have to buy new beds every year. It was bed mite free and very clean (probably hosed down!), but I like most people my age don’t wet the bed, so the precaution wasn’t entirely necessary. The main problem was that this bed made noises, some dodgier than others. Also bed sheets and undercovers slipped off really easily in the middle of the night so I stuck to the bed, not especially pleasant.
