SmartDisk SmartScan 2700

Advantages: Excellent scans, little competition at this price range.
Disadvantages: Dreadful manual, cumbersome software, poor build quality.

...'t being 'grabbed' by the auto-feeder. After a quick e-mail to SmartDisk tech support I was told that the film needs to be pushed very far into the slot before it's actually gripped - so it was working but due to the very poor manual I didn't know this until talking to tech support (who did respond very quickly and courteously). Once your material is in the scanner, you click the scan button in CyberView and off it goes. A delightful variety of weird and wonderful noises now begin to emanate from the scanner as it focuses, calibrates and begins to scan. You're kept up to date with happenings via a progress bar on the screen. A scan takes anywhere between 20 seconds and 4 minutes depending on the resolution you're set at. I've been using 2700dpi which takes around 90 seconds to do 1 slide. There's another wait while the file is saved... Read review
