I have begun to edit and re write some of my earlier attempts at reviewing in the hope that I can dramatically improve my earlier ( pretty sad ! ) standard . If you have read and rated this before , I hope you will see a big difference .
This is another innovative little product from Smashbox , a famous American photographic studio who produce and exclusively use their own brand of photo-perfect make-up and cosmetic products on a day to day basis .
Smashbox Studios is primarily a photographic enterprise , and many famous faces have passed through their doors for promotional shoots . The venue is also used to host events such as American and International Fashion Week .
The reason behind Smashbox's initial decision to manufacture their own cosmetic rage was to create formulas that were long lasting , corrective and colour true under the intense heat of studio lights . Their make up artists had previously used standard cosmetics purchased within the general market , but had found that their need to be repeatedly reapplied under working conditions was both time consuming and , more importantly , created a heavy , unnatural look to the skin .
As much of their day to day photographic work is in extreme close up , and their clientele demanded no less than perfect results from their studio time , the obvious answer was to design their own specialist range , specifically formulated for performance and durability . Hence the Smashbox cosmetics range was born .
Dean and Davis Factor the men who actually developed the range for production are in fact the grandsons of the famous Max Factor , and therefore have an undeniably strong grounding in the cosmetic trade
The products are reliable and lightweight whilst the colour cosmetics contain an intense level of pigmentation which makes their use both quick and economical , and the range comprehensively covers everything from problem solving to those final and often unique finishes .
This particular product was originally formulated to combat the problem of shine on the skin under hot studio lights . The trend photographically speaking is towards a flawless matte finish , which was almost impossible to achieve without multiple applications during an hour long shoot , and this product is their answer to the problem
It is packaged in Smashbox's signature black rubberised compact which has a mirror on the inner lid and a matching black sponge applicator . The product is a translucent oil absorbing powder which is milled repeatedly to a very fine degree which makes it light and natural on the skin without blocking the pores . The milling is performed in Italy , renowned for their high standards of production , assuring the quality of the products which Smashbox base their reputation on .
There is no need to make a colour choice here .. the product blends perfectly and adapts to every skin tone , and the colourless powder settles into a totally invisible shine-absorbing " veil " on the skin
The effect is long lasting , with little need to re-apply , and make-up seems glide on more smoothly and last longer after application Unlike most anti-shine products , should you need to re-apply this one , it doesn't build into a thick mask as do some I have tried in the past The effect stays fresh , natural and lightweight , and doesn't dry out the skin
This product can also be used alone in the Summer to perfect the look of the skin and control shine during the hotter days without disguising the effect and colour of your natural tan The slimness of the compact ensures easy portability , and the discreet colouration of the packaging makes the product equally acceptable for both women and men to carry .
Smashbox cosmetics have a simplistic , sharp design , products which perform excellently , and every product does just what it says it will do . Although more difficult to obtain here in the U K , it is fast becoming an industry standard and a market leader in innovation and quality . The Smashbox name is reaching iconic proportions in America , and many stars of stage and screen purchase and use the products by choice . Once you have tried them for yourself and seen the incredible results on your sin , I'm sure you will be a convert like me .

Advantages: The tube's still sort of trendy Disadvantages: it doesn't work
This was touted as not only the saviour of anyone who suffered from oily skin but a very trendy item to have on your dressing table a couple of years ago. Now it's got a new surge of popularity in this country - but, quite frankly, this stuff not only looks and smells disgusting, it doesn't work either. It contains aluminium and it seems it's supposed to work along the same lines as a deodorant - stopping anything breaking through to spoil a flawless finish. This was designed, after all, as a product to keep photographic make-up looking photographically perfect. But it doesn't. I've tried this with various combinations of foundations and powder, including Smashbox, and I can't see that it's made any improvement whatsoever. Now then - that's 15pounds I've saved you! ;0) ...
Advantages: can choose novel or normal looks Disadvantages: none I've found
Well that's what I thought about matte nail colour anyway, when I bought this set from Smashbox - a look that's a bit different but not too wacky for work. Well it is different, but I'm afraid I really don't like it. Matte nail colour just looks 'wrong' to me, however much time I give myself to try and get used to it. So now I'm wearing the colours with a topcoat and they have metamorphosed into an excellent range of polishes - just not in the way the manufacturer intended! Perhaps it's because they're meant to be matte, but all the colours give excellent coverage with just one coat (you do get a better finish with two, but you definitely don't need any more than that). Chip resistance is good. ...
