Compared to my previous fridge it is very spacious. I used to have to pack my other fridge in a "krypton-factor" style after we had been shopping whereas this one has plenty of space. After ordering it we were asked to specify which side we would like the handle on as the door is not reversible. This wasn't a hard choice for us at this stage, but I guess if we move and want it somewhere the door may open the wrong way. That will be something we will have to consider if and when.
When it arrived I immediately fell in love, and without a doubt it is my favourite appliance. Mine is pink, as is most of the rest of the kitchen, but it comes in a variety of colours, all of which are stylish and funky (in fact I began to wonder whether I should get a cream one for a more timeless look, but I concluded that if I was going to have a smeg it would be silly not to get it on pink).
Compared to my previous fridge it is very spacious. I used to have to pack my other fridge in a "krypton-factor" style after we had been shopping whereas this one has plenty of space. It really came into it's own at a party when we could not only fit all the food in, but everyone's drinks too, and we could lay the wine down in the included wine rack.
Besides the wine rack the fridge comes with a salad box at the bottom, a cheese box with lid, and several door shelves with guards you can put on to stop smaller objects sliding around too much, and of course egg racks.
Great as these features are I do wish the wine rack was higher up as I don't often drink wine/fizzy drinks etc, and so it seems a bit like wasted space. Of course I could take it out, but then where would i keep it? Whilst the main fridge shelves are fully height adjustable so you can set them to the heights that you like, I do wish the door shelves were more adjustable. There are a pair of half width shelves that have 2 height positions, however, if you wish to use the guard for narrower objects on both that is full width so they need to be at the same height as each other. Also, ideally I would put them a bit lower down than the lower setting, but I guess that would depend on what you keep in your door shelves. And my last fridge was far from ideal in terms of the shelves (which were in awkward and fixed positions). The cheese box is quite bulky too, but of course this can be removed as it is quite seperate. I do use mine though as it is easier than wrapping cheese and keeping it in other plastic boxes.
The freezer compartment/ice box is very small. This is of no real concern to me because I didn't want one anyway as I have a free standing freezer. They do do a fridge-freezer version, but I much prefer the look of the fridge. As far as I know there is no option to not have an ice box, which would have been my preference. However, as far as ice boxes go, it uses space well, and the door shuts properly meaning it doesn't frost up much if you don't use it much.
The fridge door however is quite heavy and falls shut easily. This is exaserbated by my uneven floor, but that is not the sole cause of the problem. I have to hold it open, or prop it open when I am filling the fridge.
I have only had the fridge for 2 months and so have had no need to defrost it yet, and so cannot comment on that. I also have not read, or had cause to read the manual, so again cannot comment. I have just noticed that the door has developed a creak. I only noticed it just before writing this review, but no doubt now I have noticed it it will get increasingly annoying!
Despite what seem to be a lot of negative comments I absolutely adore the fridge. It is very stylish looking, the handle is easy and comfortable to use, there is lots of space and interesting added extras for storage, and it doesn't seem to frost quickly. It's very quite and was easy to start using it straight away. It works perfectly well and has given me no reason to complain, just a few small niggles, but nothing is ever perfect is it?
...is the whole point about SMEG fridges. You are buying the look as much as, if not more than anything else. They are classic 1950's retro style fridges. Other companys do pale imitations, but the point is they are not SMEG. This actually is a kitchen appliance for the brand conscious!
That's the waffle out of the way, now I'll give you the spec.
Size
This is the mini version of the SMEG refridgeration line. If you don't have a seperate freezer, ... ...bigger brothers! The SMEG FAB28 is a very generous fridge with an ice box on the top that we use for nothing other than making ice cubes. You could fit a couple of bits in the ice box, but nothing much.
The fridge itself is a great size, much bigger than a standard fridge or the fridge section of a fridge freezer and perfect for a large family to fit all their requirements into. Even at Christmas there was plenty of room for the Christmas food shop!

Advantages: Incredibly stylish -- the focal point of the kitchen Disadvantages: Tiny freezer compartment, door hinge side fixed, some quality issues
Although my pink Smeg fridge is one of the most beautiful things I have bought for my house, I would recommend caution to anyone considering it. The main drawback from the word Go is that, unlike most fridges, it has to be specified as left-hand or right-hand hinged. Maybe not a problem if you are designing your kitchen and know you will never need to move the fridge anywhere else -- but involving deep breaths and crossed fingers for me.
Then I ... ...it is happening again.
Smeg customer service in the UK has been very helpful. (Actually, the first problem I had is that the fridge arrived with a continental plug! The only solution to this has been a rather bulky and unattractive adapter that was sent to me. ) But I have not been impressed with the quality of the appliance. As a fridge, there is a good amount of room inside, and some good compartment arrangements, including a built-in wine rack. ...

Quick review of Smeg FAB28PS6
I have had a FAB28 for almost 2 years, it is a great looking fridge but is now showing signs of wear and tear, one of the shelves has broken beyond repair and I have been told by Smeg that I have overloaded it (will have to stop buying such heavy butter and yogurts in future!) and also one of the shelf supports in the door has broken off (must buy heavy milk in our house too?). Having spent almost £1000 on a fridge I would have expected it to last a lot longer. I have read other comments regarding the freezer door, luckily for us we only use the freezer for ice so ours hasn't broken ..... yet! ...

Advantages: looks great, loads of fridge room Disadvantages: freeze compartment in fridge a nuisance as defrosts when you open the door too much
We bought this fridge because we never had enough room inour standard fridge. It was expensive (around £800) but we are delighted with it.
Firstly, it looks good which is very important in a free standing appliance. We looked at cheaper copies, but none of them were up to the same build quality. The door is solid and chunky, handle easy to use.
We chose the silver finish at it looks sleek and trendy, but timeless. It polishes up beautifully with ... ...fittings are of excellent quality and there is just stacks of room.
There are lots of door compartments for milk, butter eggs, drinks cans and other such items. There is a stainless steel bottle rack along the top to store large bottles horizontally, and we find that useful.
There is a nice big salad drawer and another plastic drawer with a lid that we use for veg.
Lastly on the interior, loads of shelf space. We planned a meal for 22 with puddings ...

Advantages: Its looks, its gorgous! Disadvantages: Its price, but its so worth it, just to look at.
Smeg FAB28PS6
I do not own this fridge myself, but we have got one at work and my god, it is amazing!
Where I work we have a pretty posh kitchen and the Smeg fridge just completely finishes off the look. It is absolutely gorgeous, which, lets face it is the main reason anyone would buy one. The space in the fridge is great too, it is nice to have a big space to put everything, it is great for drinks, great for sticking in shopping bags, infact, ... ...you feel confident you have closed it, the seal on the fridge is lovely too, strange thing to say but it just feels really sturdy. Despite all this the best thing about it is its looks, it gets ums and arrs every day and I have not got sick of looking at it. It feels like a bit of artwork in the kitchen. Is that a slightly sad thing to say about a fridge?! ...
