Smirnoff is, of course, probably one of the best known names for vodka and the simple labelling on the clear glass bottle is the usual classic red Smirnoff logo. It’s billed as “a blend of pure Smirnoff Red vodka with the classic taste of lemon” and that’s a fair enough description. The sparse labelling tells us very little else of it’s ingredients so I would guess that the lemon is more bitter lemon than sweeter lemonade, ... more
Good grief! Can you believe it, I haven’t written about anything alcoholic for over two months! I’ve just got to put that right, right now!
To be fair I haven’t had much of a taste for my usual wines this last few weeks due to a nasty cold which have left my sense of taste and smell rather lacking. So my latest kick for an alcoholic beverage is Smirnoff Ice as it combines a nice long flavoursome drink with a touch of alcohol.

Smirnoff Ice is available in 275ml bottles (sort of fills two thirds of my pint glass with a few ice cubes thrown in!) and the price seems to vary enormously. I have seen single bottles available from about £1.30 - £1.55 but I normally buy the four packs which, at cheapest, I have bought for £4.49 but have seem them for around £5.60, so it really pays to shop around a bit if you want to buy this.

The sparse labelling tells us very little else of it’s ingredients so I would guess that the lemon is more bitter lemon than sweeter lemonade, so I prefer this as I do have a penchant for bitter lemon. I have to say I think the amount of vodka contained must be pretty small as there is no obvious alcoholic taste to this initially, just a slight after “kick”. The aroma is a lot milder than the flavour, just being a gentle lemon smell with no obvious alcohol fumes. It has to be said that this drink is rather sweet so if you are working your way through a few bottles it can get heavy going purely because of that. It is also quite notably fizzy and gassy – a classic “alcopop” really.
As far as the alcohol content goes this is 5.5% volume, not particularly high as I’ve already mentioned, but if you drink it all evening or quickly then no doubt it will have the usual effects of too much booze although I haven’t experienced that myself by drinking this yet!
The bottle states to serve this “extra chilled” and I have found that is definitely the best way. For me it’s great poured into a pint glass with a handful of ice cubes as I’ve never much liked drinking straight from bottles due to my messy tendencies!
So, for me, this makes a nice change for challenged taste buds but I think I will probably be back on the wine once I shift this cold!
Advantages: Tastes great, easy to drink Disadvantages: Pretty pricey
...would think, you would find Smirnoff Ice in the alcopop section, but apparently not! Anyway, on with the show…
Smirnoff Ice first came out in this country in winter 1999. It wasn’t one of the first alcopops – Hooch had been around for 2/3 years before this, but Smirnoff was one of the first big brand alcohol labels to bring out a ready mixed drink. Smirnoff is a Russian company, founded by Piotr Arsenyevitch Smirnov in the 1860s. ... ...the world, they bought out Smirnoff Mule (launched in 1994), and then the now infamous Smirnoff Ice.
Smirnoff Ice is a vodka based ready mixed drink, and comes in 275ml bottles. The blurb on the front tells us that it is a “Blend of pure Smirnoff Red vodka with the classic taste of lemon.” It comes in clear glass bottles, and carries a sticker on the front, with the Smirnoff logo – a red crest with the words “Smirnoff Ice” ...

...is Smirnoff. Smirnoff Ice was first produced in 1998 and was introduced in the U.K. in early 2000. During that time it has steadily risen to become one of the leaders in the alcopop business and alongwith Bacardi Breezer represent a huge chunk of the market. Smirnoff Ice contains a combination of Lemon and Smirnoff Red Label vodka. The great thing about something like lemon is that it imposes itself considerably on the drink and therefore the actual taste of the vodka is somewhat diminished and cleverly disguised.
At first glance the bottle looks quite attractive. The same cannot be said for the appearance of the liquid content that is clearly visible ...

...put in an appearance – Smirnoff Ice. This is basically a mix of Smirnoff Red Label, one of the most popular types of vodka on the market, and a soft drink that reminds me of the lemon variant of Fanta. As with any alcopop, you don’t really get great value for money – the last time I was back in London, I made the mistake of ordering a bottle of this in a bar somewhere in Holborn, and was somewhat taken aback to be charged over 3 ... ...bottle of Smirnoff Ice in the bars of Heidelberg normally costs somewhere around €3.50, and you can now pick up 6-packs at petrol stations and supermarkets for around €8, which isn’t too bad. However, when you consider that you’re only getting 275ml for your money, it is pretty expensive wherever you go. The bottle itself does look quite smart – clear glass, with a silver label and the Smirnoff logo picked out neatly ...

SMELL
Upon cracking open the bottle (tonight with my teeth due to a lack of bottle openers in the house :-/ ), I’m greeted with a vibrant attack of lemons. That’s it. Lemons. After all that’s all it is, a lemon drink. The colour is that of real lemon juice so I settle into my chair comfortable in the fact that, well, it’s the right colour.

...the Russian economy, the Pierre Smirnoff company have been distilling potatoes and destroying livers for many many years. Vodka is the alcoholic base for this petite alcopop (as they say in France) and levels the intoxicating volume at a eye watering 5.5%. Nowadays, Smirnoff is about as Russian as I am since it is owned by Guinness and made in London. Sorry if I have burst any bubbles. It is the ‘Ice’ part of the name that confuses me. The actual drink is a cloudy white. Comparisons get ruder the drunker you get.
Other than that, there’s nothing especially dynamic about the drink’s physical form.

Advantages: tastes better than Smirnoff ice, sociable drink Disadvantages: Not for those who like their drinks sweet!
I?ve always drunk Smirnoffice occasionally but I find it quite sickly after a while but a friend told me Smirnoff Black Ice was more refreshing so I decided to try that instead.
The bottle is black and grey and contains 275ml of the drink. The typical Smirnoff logo is written across the bottle and underneath this Black Ice is written. The drink is described on the bottle as ?a refreshing citrus blend with triple distilled vodka for a crisp, clean bite.? It is 5.5% vol.
I found this product far more refreshing than SmirnoffIce which I don?t particularly like. You can taste the alcohol but the drink certainly has the ?crisp, clean bite? that was promised.
It is a clear fizzy liquid whereas the original Smirnoffice is cloudy like traditional-style lemonade is. I like the fizziness of these drinks as the bubbles are very small ...
Alcopops the opium of the young people. Smirnoff Black Ice is not my favourate alcopop if im honest. Smirnoff Black Ice is composed of 5.5% alcohol. For me it is an impovement upon its red label counterpart. It is not as sugary and its almost as if the drink has grown up.
The price varies depending on where you buy it obviously bars and clubs will charge you and arm and a leg which is ok because after several Smirnoff Black Ices you wont be able to control your arms and legs anyway. £3.00 is probably what you would have to pay in a venue of this sort. however a pound thats a third of the price is what you are likely to find your self paying if you go to an offlicence.
RECOMMEND ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A FAN OF THE OLDER RED LABEL. ...

Smirnoff Black Ice. An easily recognisable product, to anybody who has seen a bottle of SmirnoffIce! Smirnoff across the bottle, with their shield underneath. The label is in black and silver, and is 'better looking' than the origional red one. The drink itself is clear, unlike SmirnoffIce, which is more like cloudy lemonade.
It is produced and bottled in Italy for the Pierre Smirnoff Company Limited. (You need to keep in a cool place away from direct sunlight.) Have bottle refridgerated first, as it's not so nice warm! But it is beautiful in a glass, with a few ice cubes and a slice of Lime or Lemon. (Not a fan of 'swigging' from bottle.)
It comes in a 275ml bottle and is 5.5% vol. (Only size available at the moment) Although a bigger bottle would be a good idea, as it goes down so easily. (I've suggested this to them ...
