Pearl Free Floating snare
Review of Pearl Free Floating snare by
drummerer
Advantages: professional quality drum
Disadvantages: pricy
Good drums, can be tuned high or low. Comes in maple, copper and brass. Sizes 3.5x14, 5.5x14, 6.5x14. Also comes in steel 3.5x13. loudest=brass 6.5x14
warmest=maple 5.5/6.5x14
most versitile=copper 5.5x14
best=copper 5.5x14
Copper 5.5x14 is probably the best because it has some warmth but still alot of projection. It can be tuned up or down and still sound good. These drums are great. The lugs arent drilled into the shell so no vibrations are ... ...as easily as changing a drum head. All drums feature diecast rims for supper loud rimshots and wide tuning range.
Be warned though if you want to change the siz of the shell buy a 3.5x14 drum so you only have to buy new tension rods. If you buy a 6.5x14 and want to fit a 3.5x14 shell you will have to change all the lugs which are very expensive and hard to find.
Expect each drum to cost around the £250-£300 mark depending on size and material. ...

Can u dig a Ludwig
Review of Ludwig Metal Snare by
Dread_Head
Advantages: Well constructed and gives a buetifull sound
Disadvantages: the throw off is very stiff
I've had my ludwig snare for atleast a year and it was bought second hand.
Its is chrome plated with classic lugs and a traditional throw off.the snare gives and excellent sound but it can be adjusted to anyones likeing mine is sharp and and the snare wires along the botom are very tight so it gives a very defined crack but it can be adjusted so that it can resonate for a while or that it sizzles.
it is about three years old becuase the last owner ... ...starting to come off where it has been bumped about.
The throw off is very stiff and is hard to put back but you can always buy a diffrent style of throw off.
It can be tuned very easily.
I would recomend this snare for everyone who loves the sound of a well constucted metal snare. ...

Good for a beginner.
Review of Pearl Snares by
calumc
Advantages: price, quality, durability.
Disadvantages: ring!
...that came with my 'lower-end' Pearl Forum kit, a 'Steel Shell' model. The snare appears to be very well constucted, despite having come with an entry-level kit. The shell is made entirely from stainless steel, with 6 lugs per side and very sturdy hoops for holding the head on the drum. The chrome finish looks good and doesn't dent or scratch too easily. The heads that come with the drum are not so good. The top head is 'coated', but the coating quickly ... ...the centre, which can actually affect the sound (the head is thinner in the middle). This can be sorted with a new, decent quality head, such as a Remo Ambassador for around a tenner though, and is only necessary once the original head wears out.
The bottom (snare side) head is fine - very thin, so results in a crisp snare sound. The snares themselves seem good quality, I havn't had to replace mine in the 4 years I've had the kit. The steel shell ...
