For my fifth in my choccy op series I was tempted by the Snickers that resided in my fridge freezer which I have removed from it’s icy depths and have placed it on the table in front of me proving that I do indeed have self control as I have not yet eaten it.
=[ Goes and toddles off to make himself a coffee for writing the op and for eating the Snickers bar !! ]=
I’ll explain in a minute about the coffee !!
Anyone old enough will recall that the Snickers bar wasn’t always thus and was once your much loved Marathon bar. I say “ your “ because I never cared for them much until a couple of years ago when the altered the amount of choccy you got on a
Mars bar. It was at that point I defected to the Snickers bar even though it is made my the same company, Masterfoods.
Masterfoods as you should all know by now are not my favourite candy company but I have already explained my reasoning there so no need to go over that again.
Anyway onto the wrapping for the bar. Obviously plastic with no hint of foil-type substance whatsoever ( cheap gits !! ) the wrapper is predominantly brown in colour. The front, or top, unsure which is correct, has the word SNICKERS in blue angled text upon a white background which has a red border. On the right-hand side of this is the words THE BIG ONE. The word THE in white and the words BIG ONE in yellow. There are also 2 and a half peanuts on it.
On both sides of the wrapper is a smaller version of the picture that is on the top. On the back as always with Masterfoods products there are millions of different languages and it is a hard thing to do to find any English in there whatsoever. I swear that they print dead and made up languages on their wrappers and I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find Ancient Babylonian, Atlantean, Elvish, Latin, Dwavish, Aramaic and maybe even a few Egyptian Hieroglyphs too. I think they are covering all bases here and rumours that they will be the first to print alien languages on their chocolate bars are at the moment unfounded !!
The bar itself is pretty much exactly like a Mars bar on the outside but on taking a bite it is easy to taste the difference. There is not as much nougat in a Snickers bar as there is in a Mars bar. It’s about 50 % nougat and 50 % caramel and nuts.
I find that the caramel seems to be thicker in a Snickers bar or it could just be me but it does seem that way. There are certainly a lot of peanuts though I will give them that. The chocolate is marginally thick though not overly thick by any ones standards and is also as sweet as all their other chocolate products like Mars etc. The nougat, again like Mars is chewy and not that sweet which balances out the candy bar somewhat. On top of that is the caramel and nuts which are chewy and sweet and give it that extra “ filling “ factor that is nice to get once in a while from a candy bar.
The taste is nice and sweet but not overly so as the nougat and nuts kind of balance out the sweetness of the chocolate and caramel which is cool for me.
I personally have a problem with a Snickers bar as I find it hard to digest nuts so I have to be careful how many I eat as without getting too gross after they work their way through my system it is uncomfortable to say the least. My way of combating this is to chew like my life depended on it and I do mean that rather literally. I keep on chewing until there is no substance whatsoever just mush but then it all gets caught in all the nooks and crannies of my mouth so lots of coffee is required to dislodge the offending chewed up mush.
I can’t knock off points for this as this is my fault not theirs ( for once ) and I also have to say that the weight of the bar is a pleasant 100g which is almost 20 % more than a Mars BIG ONE though I think they would argue that the nuts give it extra weight.
The bar cost me 46 pence but this is because it is a BIG ONE and not a normal sized bar. I just find that the larger sized bars are just better value for money and more filling in general.
So Snickers gets the thumbs up from me and before I finish I just want to say sorry to thecatsmother … I ate it !! Next one is yours lol
