Firstly, i do not condone the breaking of speed limits but along with my review of this product i will also explain my reason for purchasing it.
I purchased my Snooper from In Car Express who are a automotive specialist in Cambridge. They have an excellent website and their prices are very competitive. I can recommend them.
I actually purchased the S6-R Plus which is exactually the same model as the S6-R apart from the display. The Plus has a relaxing blue display compared to the original green one. This Snooper consits of three components; the main display; the laser/radar detector; the GPS antenna. It additionally has the added benefit that you are not required to conect it to a computer to update its database of fixed camera locations, as it has an inbuilt modem and can be connected directly to any telephone socket.
Once purchased you are required to register the product on the manufactorers website at(www.snooperuk.com). The registration then entitles you to 6 months of free updates. If you are an occasional driver they recommend that you update around once a month, whilst frequent drivers should update at least once a week. At registration you can pay for the continuing updates by two methods; monthly at £4.95 per month or for 24 months with a one off payment of £99.95. Although these fees begin to mount up Snooper UK offers a 5 year warranty on the product if the subscription is continually paid without any lapse.
I have now used this product for a few months and it is very impressive. It can give you clear warnings of fixed camera's up to 1Km away, you set the warning distance. With fixed camera's it displays your speed and also the limit for that road, which allows you to confirm that your are actually within the law. On two occassions i have discovered Gatso camera's which the Snooper has not alerted me to, but these locations can be stored at the push of a button and when you next connect to Snoopers database they will be uploaded to them. This fact therefore brings home the point that just because you own a detector you should not get complacent with regards to obeying the speed limits or "looking" for camera's.
Finally, why do you need this product? Well, i had been driving for 17 years with no points, although you could say I'd just not been caught yet :-) I had a lapse of concentration and for 36 mph in a 30 zone, BLAM 3 points and a £60 fine. For various family reasons i could never afford to lose my driving licence, so i purchased this product. I can honestly say that having it in your car does make you pay attention to speed limits and on the few occasions that it is unclear what the limit is on a particular road the Snooper happily reminds you, as the warning is going off!
In summary, if driving is your livelyhood you should have one of these.
