Advantages: Advance warning of speed cameras Disadvantages: Annoying false alarms within city areas
I have owned one of these for about a year now and it has proven usefull, especially as the M42 that I travel along everyday has recently been filled with cameras and a 50mph speed limit. The first time I noticed the cameras was when the Snooper started bleeping and flashing, which instantly made me more aware- then I noticed the lines painted on the road!
The warning range on this model is not the best but as long as you are not above the speed limit by a stupid amount it gives enough time to check and adjust your speed accordingly. It is not designed as a failsafe for driving at 120mph everywhere, this is sometimes forgotten by certain people.
The only downside to these devices in general is the false alarms- these cannot be helped as it is designed to detect any radar signal (to account for new frequencies used all the time ...

Advantages: Excellent detection range for both Radar and Laser based speed traps, full info display, voice alert, effective against Ku band Mini GATSO cameras Disadvantages: Will nor spot passive devices such as SPECS and TRUVELO, planned to make it along with other detectors of it's type illegal in 2006
NOW BEFORE I START THIS REVIEW.
I AM NOT CONDONING DANGEROUS DRIVING OR UNNECESSARY SPEEDING.
The Bel Euro 550 is an updated and enhanced verison of the Bel 980 I reviewd earlier-some of the review will be duplicated but not everybody is going to want to read two reviews to get info about one product so here goes..
I owned a Bel 980 for almost two years back between 2000-2002 and was very happy with it's performance.Progress never stops and eventually it has been updated and enhanced.
Now, I purchased a Valentine One and my boss recognised the need for a good Radardetector but didn't want to spend £400-600 on it. So after a discussion, I recommended the Euro 550.
The Euro 550 is the current top of the range detector available from Bel and available through a number of suppliers. RRP is currently £399.95 through Networx ...
Advantages: Gives You A Chance Disadvantages: False Alerts (but you soon work it out)
THESE UNITS ARE NOT A LICENCE TO SPEED AND I DO NOT ENDORSE SPEEDING. THIS IS MEARLY A REVIEW OF THE PRODUCT. IT IS PROVEN THAT PEOPLE WHO USE THESE UNITS HAVE 24% LESS ACCIDENTS. BY KNOWING WHERE CAMERAS ARE THE OVERALL AVERAGE SPEED MUST DECREASE.
QUICK OVERVIEW
What is a snooper?
For those of you that don't know what these great little gadgets are, they are speed camera detectors. Basically they give you a chance of saving some points, your licence and a bit of money (after initial cost). They are aimed at making drivers slow down because they know there is a camera. It's also proven that snooper users have less accidents (it says so on the box at least). Oh and they are 100% legal in the UK.

Gives voice alerts rather than bleeping, shuts up if you are driving below the speed limit, tells you the reported speed of the road, records and monitors your speed limit, you can record your own high risk zones
Database is not up to date, laser detect is questionable (*)
