I always like to let other Ciao members know of products I have recently tried as if you don't share your views on them then other people could miss out on fantastic products or buy items that aren't very good, something which is especially important at the moment as people can't afford to waste money on products which don't meet the grade.
According to new research Britons spend £10.2 billion a year on beauty products - this figure doesn't surprise me at all, I myself am a self-confessed product junkie although I don't spend anywhere near as much as I used to but I still find myself tempted sometimes to try out the latest cosmetics or toiletries. Whilst paying off my debts I adopted a one in one out procedure to try and stop me from overbuying stuff I don't really need.
Recently I noticed that my skin has looked slightly congested and dull looking and that the face scrub I had been using didn't really seem to be doing anything for my skin plus it wasn't particularly pleasant to use. Exfoliation is very important to keep the skin looking fresh and healthy as it helps remove any dead skin cells and can help to unblock pores which can lead to those horrible blackheads that sometimes appear and look very unsightly. Even though I hadn't used the scrub up I resigned myself to the fact that if it isn't working there really is no point in carrying on using it as my skin was just looking worse and worse as the weeks went by. I needed to buy a new scrub but I wasn't sure which one to buy having tried a few before and never managing to find one that I was really happy with at a decent price. I was quite impressed with an Estee Lauder one that I reviewed a while ago but at around £28 for a relatively small tube it is a bit out of my price range for a scrub that I would intend on using a couple of times a week.
I had seen the Soap and Glory range in my local Boots store and was intrigued by it's girly retro style packaging and quirky pun style names but having never tried any of them I had no idea what they were like. Plus I was being very good and resisting buying any new products because I was trying to use up all my old ones first. I noticed that within their range they had a face scrub called "Scrub Your Nose in It" priced at £7 it wasn't cheap but it wasn't overly extortionate. Having read the tube it sounded pretty good but then my sensible side kicked in and told me "they all sound good on the packet but it's when you use it that they sometimes let you down" and I was worried that it would be another £7 down the drain so I resisted and walked away.
Every time I went to Boots though I kept getting drawn back to this girly pink display with its pretty packaging and again I would pick up the face scrub, read the pack then eventually after deliberating for about 15 minutes I'd put it back and walk away. This carried on until Christmas when I hit the Boots sale on Boxing Day when I was extremely happy to see that all of the Soap and Glory gift sets had been reduced to half price. This was my opportunity to finally try out some of the products! I saw a large box with 7 different items in including a 50ml tube of the face wash reduced from £20 down to £10 and immediately put it in my basket (along with a number of other sets that were reduced).
The next day my husband was staying overnight at a friends so I grabbed the opportunity of having the house to myself and decided to have a girly pampering evening using some of my lovely new products I'd picked up in the sales. I ran myself a warm bath adding some of my new Soap and Glory bubble bath, lit some candles and got myself a glass of wine - well it's not often I get to have a real pampering bath when my hubby is around! Once in my bath I decided to try out the Soap and Glory face scrub - after all this time I was eventually going to get to see how it faired. The scrub which comes in a pink tube has retro style writing with "Scrub Your Nose in It" on the front and says that it has a special fruit acid formula which leaves skin looking brighter and more radiant. It also says this is as a multi-tasking scrub and mask marvel on the tube which helps refine large pores and prevent blemishes.
The instructions on the reverse of the tube say to "apply a pea-sized dollop of Scrub Your Nose in It to a damp T Zone (that's your nose, chin and forehead). Massage gently in circular motions, and then extend out to the less clogged places on your face. Rinse well and follow with moisturiser." Just the same as any other face scrub but I always read just to make sure every time I buy a new product just in case. I usually wash my face with my usual face wash before exfoliating as it helps to open up the pores slightly, however some people prefer to just apply a scrub without using anything else first - I think this is just a case of personal preference.
After washing my face I flip open the cap of the tube and squeeze gently, I always do this quite gingerly the first time I try a new product which comes in a tube - too many times before I've squeezed too hard and ended up with half of the contents over my hand/leg/tummy/bed/chair/cat/whatever. The first thing I notice when a small sliver of cream leaves the tube onto the palm of my hand is that it is a minty green colour which I wasn't eexpecting. The cream has a nice consistency, is not too runny and not too thick but instead kind of in the middle and comes out of the tube in a nice steady motion so it is really easy to dispense which is good.
Just to test the texture of the scrub I take a small amount on the end of my finger and apply it to the inside of my wrist, there are extremely fine particles which you can just about feel - none of this business where the particles feel like sand and are so rough they are very unpleasant and scratchy to the skin, these are just the right size. Having tested to make sure the scrub isn't going to feel like I am taking the top layer of my face off with a sheet of sandpaper I then put my palms together and distribute the cream onto both hands. As I do this I can smell something absolutely gorgeous!
From the scrub is coming a kind of refreshing minty aroma which personally I love, it reminds me of mint choc chip ice cream. It isn't too overpowering (in my opinion) but you can definitely smell it as you put the cream on your face, I can see how some people may not like this, again it's all down to personal preference and if you don't like minty smelling things then this probably isn't for you. I start to apply the cream to my face paying attention initially to my T Zone as the instructions recommend, it glides on like a dream, really smoothly and as I start to use my fingers in a circular motion I can just about feel the tiny bits contained in the scrub but only just. I must admit I did think to myself at this point that this product was probably going to be a let down because if I couldn't feel the particles then how were they going to be any good at exfoliating my skin?
I like to take my time over exfoliating as I want to make sure I have done the best job possible, so I always slowly push the scrub around my face in small circular motions concentrating on the area around my nose and on my chin as I am prone to blackheads in these areas. When I have used scrubs before they have been too harsh for me to really work them into these places as the grains are far too scratchy and it becomes uncomfortable to carry on for longer than a short while - I didn't find this with this scrub at all.
After I had applied the scrub to all the areas of my face I then splashed my face with tepid water to remove it, this is one of the things I usually hate about scrubs as normally I seem to get grains stuck all over my face and no amount of splashing seems to remove them, I have been known to remove my scrub using a baby wipe before in an attempt to get all the grains off and still found some stuck to my face afterwards. This scrub comes off so easily, a couple of splashes and it washes away and no residue or bits are left on your skin afterwards either - amazing! Before I applied my moisturiser I patted my face dry with a towel, I felt my skin and was very pleased to feel it feeling soft and smooth, much more so than with any other face scrub I have used.
So since the first time I used this I have been converted, it is definitely the best face scrub I have ever used, I love the texture, the smell, the fact it isn't scratchy and that when I remove it I don't end up with most of it left on my face. My husband even said that he has noticed when I use this skin looks much fresher and feels a lot softer afterwards so it must be good! Once my mini tube has run out I will definitely be buying the full sized version as now I know that it is worth the price and so I don't mind spending out on it.
I would award this product 5 out of 5 - the packaging is girly, kitsch and pink, it has a cool name, it actually works and it leaves my skin looking fantastic, what more can a girl ask for?
