Having used some soap and glory facial skincare products before, I decided that I would not purchase any again as they were just awful (but I think everything else they do is just fab!). For Christmas I received some soap and glory products from a friend, one of which being the ‘scrub your nose in it’ facial scrub. I wasn’t overly excited at the prospect of using this considering my past experience with their skincare, but having said that I was in need of a face scrub. When I starting using this scrub I had very low expectations but have actually been pleasantly surprised.
Packaging and availability
As with all soap and glory products this scrub in found in boots stores or online. It retails at £7.40 for 125ml which I find fairly reasonable as I expect this scrub to last me quite some time. The packaging is typical of soap and glory – pink and retro with various writing over the front including what it is and what it is intended to do. ‘A multi-tasking scrub and mask marvel’ which ‘helps refine large pores and prevent blemishes’. This scrub is housed in a tube with a flip lid which I find incredibly convenient in the shower. It is very awkward to unscrew lids with wet hands so a flip lid is very useful. The back of the packaging contains the usual info – instructions for use, ingredients, that the product is not tested on animals, and that the scrub needs to be used within 24 months of opening so has a very good shelf life.
Instructions for use and results of usage
This product can be used in two different ways – either as a daily facial scrub or as a mask. The instructions given are to ‘apply a pea sized amount of Scrub Your Nose In It to a damp T-zone. Massage gently in circular motions , then extend out to the less clogged places on your face. Rinse well and follow with moisturiser’. To use as a pore cleaning mask a thin layer of product should be left on for 3 minutes before being rinsed.
*** As a daily facial scrub ***
Considering the packaging when I used this product I was expecting the usual soap and glory fruity fragrance but was instead greeted with a distinct peppermint fragrance which I can’t say I love. I don’t like the smell of mint much at all, far too overpowering for me, although I have to say I have become more used to it the more I have used the scrub. The product is very fittingly a pale minty green colour and has quite a creamy texture to it. I apply a very small amount of scrub as not very much is needed at all. As you rub the scrub in it feels quite creamy and moisturising but you can also feel the exfoliating granules in it. I am very impressed with the grains in this scrub as they are tiny enough to not be seen but can definitely be felt. I really hate those scrubs where the grains are huge and feel very harsh on your skin. Using this scrub gives a pleasant kind of scratching feel which makes you feel like your skin has been cleaned very well. After rinsing off the product my skin feels lovely and soft. I can’t really comment on whether it refines my pores or is helping prevent blemishes as I don’t really suffer with either of these things, but I definitely think that it cleanses my skin well and makes it feel squeaky clean! The scrub also has a pleasant tingling sensation to it which makes it feel like the product is really working and doing its job.
*** As a mask ***
I have only used this product as a mask once since I have had it although I would definitely use it in this way again. I applied a thin layer of scrub all over which had a pleasant and cool feeling. I think that this product works especially well as a mask because as you leave it on the ingredients have a chance to work, and when you are ready to rinse you once again get the benefits of using it as a scrub. The scrub is also much better value by being fit for more than just one purpose.
Value for money
As mentioned this product costs £7.40 for 125ml of product which I think is reasonable because of how little scrub needs to be used each time. While the instructions suggest using a pea sized amount I have found that I can get away with using even less than this while still having the desired effects. So far I would say I have been using this scrub for a week or so ( I may have opened my Christmas present early!) and have barely used any. I would estimate that daily usage of this scrub (as a scrub and not as a mask) would last me at least 2 months which I think offers good value for money.
Overall Pros and Cons of scrub your nose in it
*** Pros ***
• Deeply cleanses skin • Multi – functional • Lovely sized grains • Nice creamy texture • Quirky packaging – looks nice in my bathroom • Good value for money
*** Cons ***
• Not overly keen on a minty fragrance (although others may like this) • Tube is opaque so cannot see how much product is left
Overall I would definitely recommend this product and would purchase again. I am very surprised by this considering my previous experiences of their facial skincare. I would still definitely avoid their creams and serums but would now consider using other facial products such as ones for cleansing. A fab multi- functional product which gets 5 stars from me.
