Advantages Advantages Compacts the most essential information

Disadvantages Disadvantages it makes you learn

I am a second year a level sociology student who perhaps does not put the expected number of hours into study as she should. Coming up to my exams i realized that i had no chance of reading the Haralambos textbook and so found this student handbook and decided to study from this instead. This book is fantastic as it contains all the nessacery information needed for the exam without all the exam without all the extra bits. This book is easy to read and has lots of sociologists in with the right amount of information about each one. Granted this book is very boring but each module is only seven ... more

Advantages Advantages Compilation of a wide range of research and criticisms

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Large book

This text book provides more than the essential information needed to pass AS and A2 level sociology. Not only has Haralambos completed some of his own sociological research he has also compiled this text book in a way which is easy for beginners to understand but which also allows novices to deepen their knowledge of the overall subject. Unlike many sociology text books this book provides information on all the core sociology modules studyed during A levels such as religion, the family, education, crime and deviance and many more. The combination of statistics with theoretical information ... more

Advantages Advantages very gd, to the point, lots of conscice, comprehendable information, covers all major themes, renound.

Disadvantages Disadvantages very, very, very heavy and large!

This is an excellent piece of fine literature that explains the utter most details of many sociological themes, that is concise, comprehendible, and easy to use. It is clear and although it is a very heavy book with some 1000 pages, its covering of the themes are excellent and paramount to successful A level courses. Haralambos, covers a variety of topic, of which many schools pick to do two, as I have, it covers the main perspective from which sociologists evaluate their studies; functionalism, Marxism, internationalism and feminism. Its also explains much sociological language. I personally ... more

Advantages Advantages Very informative, extremely detailed, covers all curriculums, easy referencing index

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very bulky and heavy, therefore a pain to carry around!

I joined an intensive sociology course (AS level & A level in one year) at the beginning of this academic year. This textbook was the one reccommended by my teacher and i can see why. Although it may be a bit daunting purchasing such a bulky book for quite an expensive price, if you want to acheive a high grade-it's a small price to pay. i find it extremely informative and detailed and has helped me achieve full marks in the majority of my essays. For quick and brief revision purposes, there is a smaller and cheaper student handbook by the same authors and it covers all exam boards. i would ... more
