Manufacturer's product description
Socket's In-Hand Scan Card-Imager brings a new level of convenience, portability and ultra-high performance to mobile data collection by combining Socket's Mobility Friendly CompactFlash technology with a miniature CMOS image capture engine from Hand Held Products (HHP). Just plug the card into your Windows-based mobile computer, launch SocketScan software, and read bar code data into any Windows program. It's 50 times faster and 10, 000 times more accurate than manual data entry. You can also use the card to capture gray scale VGA images. The ISC-Imager integrates all of today's auto-ID data capture needs into a single device. The engine features omni-directional and auto-discrimination decoding for all popular linear, stacked linear, and 2D matrix symbologies. Additionally, the card supports OCR A and B, digital signature capture, and full VGA image capture in 256 grayscale, featuring 640 x 480 pixels at maximum resolution. Pocket PC and pen tablet users will benefit from the exciting new possibilities for bar code and image capture applications. The card features the best video imaging technology, developed by HHP over more than 20 years. The aiming line is bright and intuitive. Plus, the ISC-Imager offers omni- directional scanning, even on linear codes. This greatly simplifies operator training and increases productivity.

...and positives) (6 transparency images at a time) and APS images, but you have to buy an optional carrier, which might be hard to get hold of nowadays.
The scanner comes with a Twain driver, so should work with any graphics package, with Photoshop being the one we use. The down side is that you have to close the Twain window to pass control back to Photoshop. I think this isn't a problem on some graphics programs such as Paint Shop Pro.
The actual driver software is very easy to use, with big buttons at the top to choose what type of image is to be scanned. There is a large preview window, but I don't personally use it as the scans come out fine without having to do a prescan which saves time if you are doing a lot of scans.
You have the option of setting the colour type of the file, with the options being full colour, 256 colours or Greyscale...

Advantages: No dongles to loose or break, quality, speed Disadvantages: Takes up both PCMCIA slots
...on - its like there was a normal socket there. They only problem is that it will take up both slots to make space for the full sized socket.
The card its self is of a very high quality. It supports all sorts of special features like SNMP network management, BatterySave (tm) for increased battery life, and of course full 10/100mbps speeds (because this card uses the CardBus feature of the more recent laptops you really can get 100mbps, just make sure your laptop can support it). Another neat feature is the network status lights are integrated into the socket - when they are on it illuminated the actual plug so you know what is going on. Even just the feel of it in your hands suggest quality - its very solid and well put together unlike some PCMCIA cards I have seen.
I've found the card to be absolutely faultless and of great quality. I got...

...either scan to computer image, scan to email or you can even copy without the use of the computer, this is great if you want to save a bit of time scanning something and you don't want to wait for the computer to load up.
Scanning is really fast too, id say it takes just about 20 seconds to scan to image or email, and it takes about 1 minute to scan a photo and print it off using the scanner without a computer.
Underneath the top section is a very simple function panel, this also has a lcd panel, which has a backlight too, this is good however I would have liked to see Lexmark add a colour screen panel onto here so that you could view photos and other things before you print them off.
Why I say this colour screen would be nice to see photos is because to the right hand side of this are 2 memory card slots, also there is a usb port...

Well basically I bought this and think it is a total waste of money. I paid £99 for this item and thought it would be worth it, and would save a lot in the long run as I wouldn't need any other hair removal products.
The instructions were easy enough... more
