Sod That For a Game Of Soldiers - Mark Eyles-Thomas

I'd run out of books to read and I decided to scour Amazon to see if they had anything good in, and normally I go for parody books and stuff in general that makes you laugh so hard that it hurts but; whilst searching I found this book "sod that for a game of soldiers", now I don't really read books about war my other half does but not me,

The Book is about a man called Mark Eyles-Thomas and it's about his life before during and after the Falklands….

It starts with Mark telling us about his childhood scrumping and how he got caught, and how he played cricket and was the only boy playing at one point who wasn't going to a private school, and when he was 16 he decided that he'd had enough…… he was bored with cricket fed up with his home life and in need ... more

Although thanks to this book every one ive picked up since has been about some form of conflict and the way it has affected people in and around it.

The Book is about a man called Mark Eyles-Thomas and it's about his life before during and after the Falklands….

It starts with Mark telling us about his childhood scrumping and how he got caught, and how he played cricket and was the only boy playing at one point who wasn't going to a private school, and when he was 16 he decided that he'd had enough…… he was bored with cricket fed up with his home life and in need of guidance, support and change.

And that was when he enlisted…at first he was set on the marines but then after a conversation with a life-long friend he decided that the Parachute regiment was the way to go, and with the sales pitch from the recruitment officer being such a draw…
"The Parachute Regiment does everything the Marines do, but they also jump out of planes"…well what 16 year old boy with an appetite for life and adventure could resist that?!

The rest of the book explains the training and trials that Mark went through to be part of the Parachute Regiment, the time he spent serving with them and the effect that the Falklands had on him and many others that he enlisted with who did or did not make it home.

It's a very moving and true life book, you can see in your mind what he talks about, you can feel the fear that he and others went through just from reading his words, the words that you can tell took a lot to put on to paper.

If you could choose one book and only one book to read I would choose this one time and time again, it's not a huge book it contains 296 pages but each one is packed with emotion.

Definitely a book to get……..
