The solo card is an excellent scheme to help younger people spend money. I have a solo card with Natwest (see my review of the Card Plus Account under Natwest) and have found it very advantagous. First of all you can only spend money you have - a bit like a pay as you go mobile phone. This is good because it doesnt allow us to get into debt and deal with overdrafts and all their interest rates. The solo card also allows you to gain access to your money from the majority of cashpoints around the UK (and abroad -although there is a fee here) without any added on fees, allowing you to take cash out where ever and when ever you want to. The main benefit though is that you do not have to carry cash around with you when you go shopping because alot of shops allow you to pay for goods using the solo card.
The one criticism I would have is that not every single shop allows you to use your solo card which can be frustrating (and embarrasing!) once youve selected your goods and taken them to the checkout. And in particular, in my experience I have not seen many on-line shops that allow you to use your solo card to purchase goods. Also the solo card doesnt have any rewards when you spend money with it, so if a reward sheme could be introduced then that would improve the whole service alot.
But over-all I would definetely recommend the solo card.

Maybe you could convert it to a regular Switch card someday, as it's much more widely acceptable (incl. online of course!) Cazz xx
