All the marketing material I have come across and indeed all the reviews I have read here promote the falsehood that Solo card users cannot use money that they do not have i.e: go overdrawn or over your over draft limit when using it.
I bank with Nat West (it may not be the case with other banks) and twice in the last two months I have been charged '£25' for 'card misuse' when using my solo card.
Being fairly incompetent about my finances I was glad to get hold of a card that would stop me from spending when I run out of money. But I discovered to my peril that this is not the case.
I have taken this up with my bank and they just tell me that requests come in from various retailers and cash machines that I use over the weekend which they authorise (or not) but it is only when the transactions are processed in the week that they are able to calculate that I have gone over my limit.
This seems to me to be complete and utter rubbish and the system a complete fraud which they know will generate an income - as they could just decline requests once one's account limit has been reached.

good first review, only two things to say on this topic, firstly if you have been with your bank for 12 months they should upgrade your card, secondly, Natwest are useless, i wouldn't deal with them, as they drew funds out of a childs account, when asked why, response, not our problem........would not use.

For the record, after much tedious correspondence my bank (Nat West) has refunded all charges incurred (referred to in my review) for supposed card misuse.
